Yasushi Yamaguchi (山口 恭史 Yamaguchi Yasushi?), often credited as Judy Totoya, is a game designer and artist. He designed the character Miles "Tails" Prower through an internal contest hosted by Sonic Team. He originally named the character "Miles Prower", with the "Tails" name tacked on the end, though the other members of Sonic Team preferred this shorter name. However, Yamaguchi would manage to work in his preferred name, and "Tails" had become the nickname.

His main work was that of both creating and designing Tails as well as being the Chief Artist and one of Zone artists in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He also worked as the Special Stage Designer in Sonic the Hedgehog CD and on other Sega related games.

Originally aspiring to work in the film industry, Yamaguchi would join Sega in the hopes of becoming "a master craftsman" at creating video games.[1]

  • Yamaguchi has created artwork based on the Sonic series since he left Sega. In January 2015, he created artwork of Sonic and Tails based on Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and in 2018 he created a digital artwork of Tails to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the character and the new year.
  • In March 2024, Yamaguchi posted an artwork featuring Sonic and Tails wearing the outfits of Dragon Ball characters Piccolo and Gohan respectively. The artwork is a tribute to the late Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.[2]

But it turned out to be very difficult, and I wasn't able to. Like Oshima, I also wanted to become a master craftsman at something. When I saw the video games of that time, it looked to me like something I could make, so I joined Sega."
