The racers prepare to begin the final stage of the EX World Grand Prix at Sand Ruins.
The World Grand Prix, also referred to as the EX World Grand Prix, is an Extreme Gear tournament hosted by Dr. Eggman in Sonic R, Sonic Riders, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity and Sonic Free Riders. It is a competition for Extreme Gear riders around the world to race against each other to see who is the fastest on Extreme Gear. They are mainly involved in the storylines of these three games.

The first World Grand Prix was the setting for Sonic R on the Sega Saturn. According to the game's manual, the prix was a scheme by Dr. Robotnik to obtain the Chaos Emeralds and prove his superiority to Sonic at the same time. The EX World Grand Prix first appeared in Sonic Riders.
