The Wocky (ウッキー[1] Ukkī?), also known as the Wookie,[1] is a creature that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a race of small monkey Animals residing in different places around Sonic's world, such as West Side Island, and are close friends of Sonic the Hedgehog and his allies. They are known for having been targeted by Dr. Robotnik who seeks to use them as power sources for his Badniks and imprison them in Capsules for later use.

Anatomy[]

The general Wocky is a small, light brown-furred, rotund monkey. They have large heads with two large black eyes, pink skin around their faces, large round pink ears, and a small brown nose each. They also have small torsos with pink bellies, long arms with pink-skinned four-fingered hands, stubby legs with long pink-skinned three-toed feet, and a long thin tail each.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]

S2 wocky

The Wockies first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-bit). In this game, the Wockies, along with the other Animals on Westside Island, were captured by Dr. Robotnik and turned into energy sources for the doctor's Badniks which Robotnik needed to finish the Death Egg.[2] The Wockies can be found in Hill Top Zone, Metropolis Zone and Wing Fortress Zone, where they pop out of destroyed Badniks or opened Capsules.

Sonic Spinball[]

In the 16-bit version of Sonic Spinball, a Wocky can be found in the first and third Bonus Stages of the game. Here, Wocky is imprisoned in either a purple and grey canisters in the first Bonus Round or the regular Capsule in the third Bonus Round. The player's objective in these Rounds is to break these containers and rescue Wocky along with the other prisoners.

Sonic Rush[]

In Sonic Rush, a Wocky makes a cameo in the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog's story, where it joined the other characters in celebrating Sonic's victory.

Sonic Mania[]

Wockymania

In Sonic Mania and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, when the player destroys the Metal Sonic hologram at the end of Stardust Speedway Zone Act 2, a few Wockies will occasionally appear until they are chased off by Metal Sonic.
