Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog #3

History[]

Past[]

Eventually, gadgets called Wispons, which were designed to clear out crowds of robots using the Wisps' power, were developed.[1][2][3][4]

At some point after the Wisps settled on Sonic's world, a group of Wisps became companions for the Diamond Cutters and helped power their Wispons during several missions. On one final mission, Mimic, one of the members of the Diamond Cutters, betrayed the team and led them into a trap by Dr. Eggman. While Smithy the Lion, Slinger the Ocelot and Claire Voyance were killed in battle, their Wisps remained trapped inside the room. Mimic's Blue Wisp immediately abandoned him after it had witnessed his betrayal. Whisper and her Orange Wisp had seen the entire act Mimic put on. Whisper later went to rescue the Blue, Cyan, Green and Pink Wisp from inside the Eggman base and then went back to the Diamond Cutters' base to retrieve the Variable Wispon, a device that would allow her to utilize the power of all of the team's Wisps.[2][5]

The Eggman War[]

Shortly after the war between the Resistance and the Eggman Empire began, the former asked the Wisps for assistance in the Eggman War. The Wisps happily volunteered, even choosing to wait in Deployment Pods for when the Resistance's troops could enter an area.[1]

Near the end of the Eggman War, Barricade Town, which served as a hub for Wispon distribution, was saved and subsequently conquered by mercenary duo Rough and Tumble. Additionally, while saving Barricade Town, a Yellow Wisp was used to power the Drill Wispon that Tumble wielded and a Red Wisp was used to power the Burst Wispon that Rough wielded. As a result of the duo taking over, many Wisps were hoarded in Deployment Pods and Wispons by the two skunk brothers.[1]

Fallout![]

After the Eggman War ended, the Wisps seemingly stuck around in the various town that still needed them to power their Wispons.[3][4]

In Barricade Town, the Wisps found salvation when Sonic and Knuckles arrived to stop Rough and Tumble. During the heroes' subsequent fight with Rough and Tumble, the Wisps were convinced by Sonic to not let the two villains boss them around. As such, the Wisps in Rough and Tumble's Wispons left them, leaving their arsenal powerless and allowing Sonic and Knuckles to defeat them. Afterward, the now-liberated Wisps decided to stick around and help the townspeople defend their town by powering their Wispons.[1]

The Fate of Dr. Eggman[]

During a trip to one of Dr. Eggman's bases, Whisper and her team of Wisps encountered Sonic and Silver. Despite Whisper's initial mistrust, once her Wisps openly greeted Sonic, Whisper chose to team up with the duo. When the newly-formed trio then took on E-107 Theta and a horde of Spinas, Whisper's Wisps came to Whisper's defense when she was at the mercy of the robots. Fortunately, Sonic and Silver destroyed the Badniks before they could harm them.[2]

Battle For Angel Island[]

When Whisper joined the Resistance on a mission to liberate Angel Island from the Eggman Empire, her Wisps came along with her and aided her in battle. After accomplishing their mission, Whisper's Wisps celebrated their victory with Whisper.[6][7][8]

Bonds of Friendship[]

When Jewel the Beetle and her exhibitions at the Mineral Museum got stolen by the Babylon Rogues, Whisper's Wisps helped Whisper and Tangle get both Jewel and the stolen goods back safely. Afterward, Whisper's entire Wisp team helped restore the Mineral Museum.[9]

Tangle & Whisper[]

Whisper soon returned to the museum with her Wisps to inform Tangle and Jewel of a mercenary shapeshifter she was hunting down named Mimic. The Wisps decided to play around the museum while they waited. The Wisps then surrounded Tangle and Jewel to look at images of Mimic impersonating Sonic and causing trouble. When Tangle decided to join Whisper in her hunt for the shapeshifter, the Wisps supported her. Whisper initially refused but was soon convinced by the Wisps, especially the Blue Wisp, to let Tangle join her, leaving the Wisps to celebrate.[10]

Later, after Tangle and Whisper encountered Mimic, the Wisps listened to Whisper as she told Tangle of her past. Tangle soon discovered from Whisper's Cyan Wisp that she the Diamond Cutters' masks allowed them to communicate with Wisps. The Wisps soon convinced Whisper to allow Tangle to see what Mimic did to the team. Later, the Wisps help create a message to give to Mimic so that he would easily find and challenge them again.[5] The Wisps accompanied Tangle and Whisper to the former base of the Diamond Cutters and helped the latter fight against the horde of Badniks that Mimic brought to the base later. Whisper then helped Tangle fight against Mimic but was temporarily stopped after the Blue Wisp refused to fight against its former teammate. After the girls defeated the shapeshifter, the Wisps accompanied them to Tails' workshop where Mimic was left to be imprisoned. Afterwards, Tangle and Whisper parted ways and the latter enjoyed a walk with the Blue Wisp.[11]

The Last Minute[]

As Whisper used her Variable Wispon to fend off against the Zombots in Central City, her Orange Wisp showed signs of fatigue.[12]

In Spiral Hill Village, Whisper became hysterical upon learning from Sonic that Tangle got infected by the Metal Virus. Her Wisps helped Amy drag the wolf back to the Rescue Shuttle when she tried to run back in the village. In the shuttle, the Wisps tried to comfort Whisper as she cried into Cream's lap.[13]

All or Nothing[]

Whisper's Wisps soon after came along with Whisper and Silver on a mission to get the Chaos Emerald held by Zor. Using Tails and Dr. Eggman's Multi-Portal Generator, they traveled from Angel Island to Orchardville where the Wisps and Whisper laid in wait while Silver faced Zor directly.[14] When the time neared for Whisper to strike, her Wisps carried some prisms into position that allowed Whisper to shoot Zor's Chaos Emerald off him. The group then returned to Angel Island.[15] There, Whisper's Wisps faced the fury of the Zombots that Giant Zavok threw up to the island, one of which included Zombot Tangle. Fortunately, Super Sonic and Super Silver managed soon after to remove and destroy the Metal Virus from around the globe, thereby curing all the Zombots, including Tangle, whom Whisper's Wisps embraced after she was cured.[16]

Out of the Blue[]

Whisper's Wisps later took part in a party in Windmill Village until Dr. Eggman appeared in a large mech to destroy all the heroes present.[17] While the Wisps helped Whisper fight back, Sonic arrived and ensured Eggman's defeat.[18]

Zeti Hunt![]

While Whisper's Wisps accompanied Whisper to Restoration HQ, some of them would assist Whisper when she fought the intruding Deadly Six, namely by powering Whisper's Variable Wispon so she could fire at the Deadly Six's members. After the fight however, the Wisps found out that Belle had been kidnapped by Dr. Starline.[19]

Trial by Fire[]

It was later with some reluctance that Whisper's Wisps joined Whisper when she departed from Restoration HQ in order to keep her friends out of harms way after learning that Mimic was free. Although Tangle caught them departing, she was unable to convince the Wisps and their friend to stay.[20]

Some time afterwards, at the Forest Ridge Zone Campground, a Red Wisp named Red Hot and their friend, Ashe, would play a prank on Ashe's father.[20] Red Hot later got trapped inside a forest fire with Ashe. Fortunately, they were found by Tangle the Lemur and Belle the Tinkerer. Red Hot and Ashe would afterward follow Tangle and Belle in an attempt to escape the fires, only to be forced to the edge of a ravine by a falling tree. Red Hot attempted to grab Ashe, but he, Belle, Tangle and Ashe soon fell careening towards the river below.[21] Landing in the river, the group found a log to hang onto. Once secure, the group would make it to the campgrounds via the river, where Red Hot joined Ashe as he was reunited with his father.[22]

A Green Wisp would later power Gala's Hover Wispon while they found themselves in the middle of a swarm of Badniks. Before Gala could launch an attack however, Sonic swooped in and brought both Gala and her Wisp away to safety, whom he instructed to wait out the Badniks in a nearby house.

Overpowered[]

While Surge is attacking Central City, Surge notices Whisper and the fight begins. Whisper's mask translates the Wisps language and they say that this cannot continue and that we can beat her. Whisper uses the Orange Wisp to dodge Surge's lightning and switches to the Green Wisp to stay in the air. Whisper uses the Blue Wisp to smash Surge but she dodges so she quickly switches to the Pink Wisp and launches spikes at her. Surge runs away and Whisper catches up and uses the Pink Wisp to launch a spike at Surge. Surge absorbs the energy of the Pink Wisp and uses it to pin her down. The Pink Wisp comes out and Surge absorbs it. Whisper is sad that Pink has been taken so she switches to the Blue Wisp to smash Surge but Surge catches the cube and slams Whisper to the floor. Surge absorbs the Blue Wisp, Green Wisp and Orange Wisp. Surge is thinking about what Wisp she should use to finish off Whisper but Whisper grabs a piece of her wispon in attempt to hit Surge but Surge dodges and uses the Blue Wisp to summon a cube which traps Whisper on the ground. Surge hallucinates that Starline is there so she uses to the Orange Wisp to destroy him. Sonic and Tails arrive on the scene so Sonic goes to fight Surge while Tails helps Whisper. Surge uses the Orange Wisp to attack Sonic but Sonic dodges the attack. While Sonic and Surge are fighting, Whisper sends Sonic the Cyan Wisp to help him stop Surge's rampage. Sonic transforms into Cyan Laser and repeatedly hits Surge. After a few hits, Surge blocks using the Blue Wisp and catches Sonic. Surge absorbs the Cyan Wisp and that makes Whisper sad. Tails and Sonic make a plan and the duo run away. Tails explains the plan to Sonic and Surge uses the Cyan Wisp to shoot lasers from her eyes to hit Sonic. Sonic gets downstairs and Surge pursues activating the Pink Wisp. Tails attaches Surge to the electronic devices and Surge is knocked out. Sonic, Tails, Eggman and Metal Sonic arrive at Starline Base Sigma to put an end to Surge. When Eggman is chasing Tails in his Egg Walker, Surge ambushes him and Eggman throws her away. Eggman commands his badniks to attack Surge so Surge uses the Pink Wisp to destroy all the robots. Surge uses the Cyan Wisp to shoot lasers at the Egg Walker which throws Eggman off the Egg Walker. Surge runs away after absorbing the Chaos Drive from the Egg Walker and figuring out Sonic, Tails, Eggman and Metal Sonic are teaming up. Surge and Kit lure the four into a room and they all start fighting. Surge grabs Sonic and activates the Pink Wisp to kill Sonic but Metal Sonic distracts her. Surge activates the Orange Wisp and dashes at Sonic which breaks all the containers in the room but luckily Sonic was able to dodge the attack. Surge activates the Laser Wisp, the Green Wisp to fly and the Pink Wisp to throw spikes at Sonic. Surge uses the Cyan Wisp to shoot a laser at Sonic and he reflects the laser with a glass tile. Surge activates the Blue Wisp to create cubes which Sonic uses as platforms so Surge deactivates it. Surge knocks herself out and the Wisps are free.
