Winter Caverns Zone[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a winter-inspired Zone that is located on Earth.
Concept and creation[]
Winter Caverns Zone is named after one of the four seasons, with this Zone using the winter season as its inspiration.
Description[]
Winter Caverns Zone is an open, snowy landscape that has mountain peaks surrounding the land, with the noticeable landmark being a mountain where Dr. Eggman uses as his base: this mountain is themed appropriately as an Eggman base, as his face is plastered on it. Various loops, icy walls, as well as colorful, sharp crystals and icicles dot the area. There is also a river here, on which one can float on ice floes. There are also Badnik patrols that include Star Pointer and a floating robot with the appearance of a snowman's head that form snowballs with sharp icicles protruding from them. Snow-covered platforms also appear in the background.
Deep inside the giant Eggman-face mountain lies Eggman's base, sealed behind a giant steel-plated gate that can be opened as swiftly with a push of a button in the Egg Mobile.[1]
History[]
Seasons of Chaos[]
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Mighty, Ray, Fang, Bean, Bark, and Dr. Eggman made their way from Autumn Forest Zone to Winter Caverns Zone after learning about Heavy King's plans to use the Chaos Emeralds to conquer the world. As the gang traveled through the Zone, they reached the gate inside Eggman's base, where they began a battle with Metal Sonic and Metal Knuckles, both of which were being controlled by Heavy King. Thanks to the elusive Tails Doll however, Eggman used its jamming signal to bring Metal Sonic and Metal Knuckles back under his control. He then remotely opened the entrance to the base. Inside the base, the group began a fight with Heavy King, who used the seven Chaos Emeralds' power against them. Luckily, thanks to Sonic egging-on Heavy King, the heroes managed to take the Chaos Emeralds away from the Hard Boiled Heavy and succeeded in stopping him. With Heavy King back on his side, Eggman began to gloat and ordered his robots to seize the heroes and the Emeralds. However, they had all left before Eggman could notice and his robots did not have enough energy to pursue them, leaving Eggman to sulk at another plan failing. The heroes and mercenaries then left to go about their separate ways (with each of them taking a Chaos Emerald to split the chances of Eggman attempting to find and obtain the Chaos Emeralds again).[1]
