The Wind-Up Punch[1] (ぐるぐるパンチ Guruguru panchi?) is Sonic's side smash attack in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Description[]
Sonic charges up a powerful punch by spinning his fist and arm quickly and then releasing it to heavily damage and launch enemy fighters away.
Trivia[]
- When releasing the punch, Sonic's hand becomes cartoonishly enlarged, which is a reference to the Arcade fighting game, Sonic the Fighters.
- This attack is based off the attack with the same name from the Arcade fighting game, Sonic the Fighters.
- On October 1, 2020, Sonic used this attack on Mario as a way to reveal Steve from the popular game Minecraft. This has since spawned a meme known as, "Sonic punches/launches people to Minecraft".
- The official Sonic the Hedgehog social media would later reference the meme when a Sonic the Hedgehog skin pack was added to Minecraft.
