Throw a different effect on your rivals each time with this wild card.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Wild Card is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile Item used primarily to attack rivals.

Description[]

The Wild Card's icon takes the form of cards each with question marks on top. They come in three colors - orange, purple and blue. A color trail follows the card in their respective color. These cards are then surrounded in an arrow shape of yellow light. In gameplay, it becomes a projectile that is colored card colored blue with a snowflake on, red with a flame on, or purple with a lightning bolt.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Wild Card can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Jester Sonic. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Wild Card if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Wild Card by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user sets loose the Wild Card's shot, which will travel down the lane it was deployed on in front of the user until it hits either a rival character or obstacle, or it wears off. The shots come in three colors (blue, red and purple), but the color is chosen at random. In addition, the differently-colored shots will have different effects on the rival character they hit:

  • Red: Rival characters that make contact with the red card (with fire on it) will take fire damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily.
  • Purple: Rival characters that make contact with the purple card (with bolt shape on it) will be stunned, causing them to lose Rings and stop moving for a moment, and lose one of the randomly item they currently have on the bottom of the HUD.
  • Blue: Rival characters that make contact with the blue card (with snowflake on it) will lose Rings and be frozen.

To avoid the Wild Card, the playable character has to either step out of its shot's lane or jump over it.

Functionally, the Wild Card is very similar to the Firework Flurry.

The Wild Card can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6 and 12, respectively. When the user is upgraded to each of these levels, the Wild Card will deal a greater amount of damage.
