The Watermelon Mechas are Badniks based on the eponymous fruit. Their bodies are red, with two cartoony black eyes, and a small cannon beneath them. They are entirely covered by a round green two-piece shell, with dark green zigzag stripes on it which highly resembles that of the outside of a watermelon.
Overview[]
In Sonic Superstars, the Watermelon Mechas appear as enemies exclusively in Act Amy of Lagoon City Zone. Initially the Watermelon Mechas stand still in specific locations throughout the Zone, usually close to other regular fruits in the Act. They usually wait for the player to approach, being hidden fully in their watermelon-like shells. When the player is close enough, the Watermelon Mechas will roll back and forth until eventually stopping to partially uncover themselves and shoot several small projectiles. After that, they hide again, and repeat their attack pattern. The projectiles shot from the Watermelon Mechas do not harm the player and instead just bounce them back a bit (which can be dangerous if the player is near any dangerous hazards or enemies).
Unlike many other Badniks, the Watermelon Mechas cannot be destroyed with regular attacks. However, the player can hit them like the other fruits in the Act when they are partially uncovered, causing them to fly forward and hit fruits and destroy Badniks in their way. Eventually though, they will get destroyed after colliding with a wall. The Watermelon Mechas do not release an Animal or grant the player any points upon destruction, unlike most other Badniks.
Powers and abilities[]
The Watermelon Mechas are able to roll on the floor when hidden in their shells. When they are partially uncovered, they can shoot small projectiles resembling seeds out of their cannons. Additionally, the Watermelon Mechas are durable enough to not be destroyed by any attacks directly.
