As their name suggests, the Water Strider Mecha is directly based on a water strider, with these Badniks having a rhomboid body with two large eyes and four spindly legs with suction cups as feet. They are mostly purple, with a lighter shade of lavender on their rear and bits of gray on their legs.
Overview[]
In Sonic Superstars, the Water Strider Mechas appear exclusively in Lagoon City Zone Act 1. In gameplay, the Water Strider Mechas will stride back and forth on the surface of various water sections. Occasionally, the Water Strider Mechas can obstruct the player's path by jumping into the air. If the water below them is deep enough, they will release a small missile that sinks to the bottom and explodes. Despite this, these Badniks can still be easily destroyed by the player via any basic attack. Like most Badniks in the game, the Water Strider Mecha will release their Animal and award the player 100 points upon destruction.
In addition to appearing as standard enemies, the Water Strider Mechas also appear during mini-boss of Lagoon City Zone Act 1. During the boss fight, the mini-boss will produce large numbers of Water Strider Mechas in order to take up space in the battlefield. While these Badniks can be destroyed by the player, the mini-boss itself can also destroy the Water Strider Mechas as well when electrocuting the water. While the Water Strider Mechas who are destroyed by the mini-boss do not give any points to the player, they still release the Animals that were powering them.
Trivia[]
The Water Strider Mecha shares similarities with the Amenbo from Sonic the Hedgehog CD, namely them being based on water striders and launching missiles.
