The Warp Game[1] (ワープゲーム[2],Warp Game[1]?) is an optional mini-game that appears in Sonic Superstars, with the purpose of allowing the player(s) to collect extra Rings. Each Warp Game stage only lasts a few seconds, and is accessible by locating and entering a Warp Gate hidden in set positions throughout the game's acts.
Of note is that, unlike Special Stages or Bonus Stages, Warp Games are not considered separate stages from the area the player entered them from, and as such the music from the stage the player entered the Warp Game from will continue playing through the minigame.
The Warp Game areas resemble sky-like areas, dotted with exotic objects crystalline "bubbles", or polygonal wireframe structures. The background color of the Warp Game areas is a shifting hue, changing from blue to magenta to green.
Gameplay[]
Each Warp Game takes place in a 2D plane, and contains a set amount of Rings arranged into formations. While in a Warp Game, players are placed in a "skydiving" state, and are not able to perform any actions besides basic 4-directional movement with .
Overview[]
Warp Games are initiated when the player enters a Warp Gate, and all other currently-joined players will be brought into the active Warp Game regardless. Once in the game, one of several formations is automatically chosen, which determine both the Ring arrangement of the stage, and the direction it auto-scrolls. Depending on the chosen formation, the stage will constantly scroll either left, right, or down, leading towards a portal out of the area. The automated path between the Warp Game's entrance and exit is where the formations of Rings appear, and the players are encouraged to collect as many of these as possible before reaching the end of the Warp Game, and being returned to the level they came from.
