Lin's son-in-law, who works at the pork bun shop. The village's famous buns have always been whipped up by the ladies, who won't let him comes anywhere near the kitchen. Then again, Wang knows how strict Lin can be about her product, so he's perfectly content with being stuck behind the counter.

— Directory, Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360/PlayStation 3)

Wang (ワン Wan?) is a character that appears on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed. He is a human resident of Chun-nan, the husband of Jinlin and father of Hualin. Since the women of the village are the ones making the village's famous meat buns, Wang contently manages the village's local shop, named "Wang's Emporium", where he sells their meat buns.

History[]

At some point in his life, Wang met Jinlin and married her. He later joined Jinlin and her family in the meat bun business and worked as the salesman in the meat bun shop. Since it was the women of the village that made their famous meat buns, Wang was never allowed anywhere near the kitchen when they worked. Wang, however, knew how strict Lin could be when making her meat buns and was satisfied with working behind the counter. At some point, he and Jinlin had a daughter they named Hualin.

During the events of Sonic Unleashed, Dark Gaia's Minions began invading the nearby area and the village elder, Zonshen, went missing. The local Entrance Stage was then declared too dangerous to enter and Wang took upon the task of preventing anyone from entering it. When Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip later arrived in Chun-nan to look of the Gaia Temple, Wang told them when they arrived at the Entrance Stage that they could not enter it as it was too dangerous. He then explained that it was for their own good and that no one got through without Lin's permission.

Sonic and Chip soon after returned, where Wang refused to let them through, but then heard that Lin had granted them access because they had volunteered to look for Zonshen. Apologizing for his initial outburst, Wang wished Sonic and Chip good luck and let them through. After Zonshen had been brought back to the village, Wang returned to his work at the shop.

Trivia[]

  • One possible interpretation of Wang's name in Chinese is "王", meaning "King", which is a common surname in China.
  • Two of the dishes in Wang's shop are named after him: Wang's Box Lunch and Wang's Noodles.
  • Wang is one of the two shopkeepers on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed that can be interacted with in gameplay outside of their shop, the other being Kofi.
