The Walrus Camera Man[1] is a character who appears in the Sonic Boom series. He is an anthropomorphic walrus and a camera man employed by the television network on Seaside Island. He primarily works in the field, usually as Soar the Eagle's camera operator, and has on rare occasions worked as a photographer.[2]
Appearance[]
The Walrus Camera Man is an anthropomorphic walrus slightly shorter than Soar with lavender fur and purple eyes. He has a large and round torso with stubby legs, thin arms, a medium-large head with no visible neck, and a wide muzzle with grey skin, short tusks and a black snout. For attire, he wears a black cap, white gloves, a tan vest with dark spots and several pockets, and black boots. He is also rarely seen without a camera on him.
History[]
TV series[]
Season one[]
With the "trial of the century" between Sonic and Eggman on, the Walrus Camera Man stood for the video coverage on Soar's interview of Sonic.[3] Then, after covering Soar's report on the "Battle of the Buns," the Walrus Camera Man visited Chez Amy, only to flee when Eggman demolished the place.[4]
The Walrus Camera Man would also record Soar's interview of Sonic's opinion on Dave the Intern's brief rise to villainy.[5] When New Year's Eve then came, the Walrus Camera Man did coverage on the interviews of the local icons at the party in the Village Center. Amidst this, Dr. Eggman used his Slow Motion Machine to slow down time long enough for him to beat Sonic in something before New Year, though it happened too fast for the Walrus Camera Man to notice.[6] Later, with Justin Beaver's rise to fame, the Walrus Camera Man provided coverage on the uprising pop star.[2] The Walrus Camera Man and Soar also tried to get an interview of Knuckles the Echidna while he was a celebrity, but were rejected.[7]
Season two[]
With movie star Tommy Thunder in town, the Walrus Camera Man was there whenever Soar did a news report on Tommy's activities, including Tommy's latest movie promotion and his supposed victory over Obliterator Bot.[8] The Walrus Camera Man was also there to cover Soar's news story on the new scissor factory.[9] While controlled by Dreamcaster soon after, the Walrus Camera Man would broadcast the robot's hypnotism across the Village in an attempt to take control of Sticks.[10] He would also later help Soar cover a contest between Dave the Intern and a new robot employee at Meh Burger (which ended in Dave's defeat) on a slow news day.[11] He and Soar soon after joined forces again to do a news coverage of the Science Fair Awards.[12]
When Tails seemingly proved Muckfoot's existence with a photo, the Walrus Camera Man would praise Tails as a hero. He soon after got a job on the new reality show Muckfoot Hunters, where he would film Tommy Thunder and Tails' real-life encounter with "Muckfoot".[13] Returning to Soar, the Walrus Camera Man intruded on an attack on the Village by malware-infected robots and recorded Soar's report on the crisis while ignoring peoples' cries for help.[14] The Walrus Camera Man later worked as the camera operator on the Comedy Chimp Show a few time and on a home shopping show once.[15] When local gossip later revealed that Dr. Eggman was no doctor, the Walrus Camera Man began seeing him as a joke. After helping Soar spread the word, the Walrus Camera Man joined the villagers in mocking Eggman during the scientist's next trip to the Village, although Eggman soon got a real doctorate.[16] The Walrus Camera Man and Soar soon after resurfaced to do a live coverage of the soccer match between Team Sonic and Team Cybonic that would decide the rec center's fate, a match of which Team Sonic won.[17] Several months afterward, the Walurs Camera Man would help Soar do a TV coverage of Race Day.[18]
Joining Vector the Crocodile and his TV show on their next case, the Walrus Camera Man recorded Vector's whole investigation while following him around.[19] The Walrus Camera Man was later helping out on the set of the latest Tommy Thunder film when an avalanche buried him and the set in snow. Before they froze to death though, the Walrus Camera Man and his associates were saved by Tails.[20]
Personality[]
Like what is expected of a camera operator, the Walrus Camera Man is very dedicated to his profession, never showing any lack of focus while at work and maintaining a prying eye on the subject(s) he is recording.[6] However, he does not appear to be very helpful, as he does not seem interested in helping people in distress, even when they are right in front of him.[14]
