All my life, I've learned from great warriors. I learned from a mother who never stopped fighting for her family. I learned from her sister, who's honestly a little bit annoying, but amazingly fearless and headstrong. But most of all, I've learned from the greatest warrior in the entire galaxy, who taught me that real warriors wouldn't exist if not for those who came before them, showed them the way, and never stopped fighting, no matter how hard the battle became. That's why I never would've found my greatest strength, my true power, without my friend, Knuckles the Echidna.

— Wade Whipple, "What Happens in Reno, Stays in Reno"

Wade Whipple is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. He is a human, and one of Tom Wachowski's fellow police officers at the Green Hills Sheriff's Department. Wade is also the deuteragonist of the television show Knuckles (2024).

Following a blackout in Green Hills, Wade got entangled in Dr. Robotnik's hunt for Sonic the Hedgehog. Regardless, Wade would help Tom, Sonic, and Maddie when the time came to defeat Robotnik. When Tom later went on vacation in Hawaii, Wade took over as temporary sheriff, during which he let himself get entangled in Robotnik's schemes once again until the doctor was defeated.

After his expulsion from his bowling team, The Renegades, Wade allied himself with Knuckles the Echidna, who offered to train him to help him be an Echidna warrior and the two set out on a quest of self-discovery towards Reno for Wade to participate in the Tournament of Bowling Champions, while being pursued by The Buyer and Agents Mason and Willoughby, who sought Knuckles' power. Along the way, Wade learned to make peace with his sister Wanda, humiliate his former friend Jack Sinclair and defeat his estranged father Pete Whipple, winning the tournament and learning to be a warrior like Knuckles after defeating The Buyer.

Appearance[]

Wade is an adult human of an average build. He has peach skin, brown hair, and blue eyes. He is usually wearing a beige police uniform with a white long sleeve shirt underneath. He occasionally wears black sunglasses.

Originally, Wade had short hair and a slight stubble. Several months afterwards however, Wade has grown his hair slightly longer, along with a short beard as well. Sometime later, he returned to having short hair and a stubble, having gained some weight after participating at a local hot pocket eating contest.

Between "The Warrior" to "The Shabbat Dinner," Wade wore a dark blue shirt over a blue t-shirt, khakis and dark brown boat shoes. During his encounter with Jack, he wore a maroon and blue checkered robe over a grey shirt with classic TMNT on it, light blue and white striped pyjama pants, and the same shoes. After defeating and humiliating Jack, Wade took the former's leather jacket and hat, giving the hat to Knuckles and taped over the Renegades portion of the jacket with duct tape, with The Warriors written on it. He wears said jacket with the same khakis and shoes, and a light purple long sleeved shirt and blue checkered buttoned shirt. During the bowling tournament, he wears the shirt and khakis with Jack's bowling shirt with his name and team name taped over Jack's and bowling shoes.

History[]

Film series[]

Past[]

Growing up, Wade was taught bowling by his father. Until one day, in a TJ Maxx department store, his father abandoned him and his family. Every Shabbat dinner, his sister, Wanda, would bully him mercilessly, which included rubbing food on his face, restraining him with a phone cord, and putting a real goat on the table. During middle school, Wade knew a boy nicknamed "Knuckles", who could put a whole fist in his mouth. At some point, he became a deputy for the Green Hills Sheriff's Department and became friends with Tom, his superior, often ice fishing with him. These trips gave Wade great insight into Tom's skills.

While at work, Wade once checked up on Tom's whereabouts by calling him, although he fell for Tom's sarcastic comment that he was in Barbados. He soon after called Tom to request his help back in Green Hills with some ducks that stole a bagel.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

When a power outage hit Green Hills, Wade called Tom for instructions on how to handle the crisis. Although Tom gave him an emergency plan, Wade quickly lost track of what he was supposed to do when Tom ended their call prematurely, so Wade fell back on Tom's first instruction about staying relaxed, ignoring all the calls he was receiving.

Not long after, Wade was questioned by Dr. Robotnik and his agents about Tom, who was wanted for domestic terrorism, although Wade did not believe Tom had the skills to pull off such a crime. When he later received a call from Tom in the Green Hills Sheriff's Department, Wade was forced to answer it in Robotnik's presence. As Wade conversed with Tom however, he slowly revealed that Robotnik and his people were eavesdropping, prompting Robotnik to snatch the phone from Wade and threaten Tom until the latter hung up. After that, Robotnik and his agents left the Sheriff's Department, leaving a nervous and confused Wade behind.

Later, when Tom was at the mercy of Robotnik's Eggpod in Green Hills after Sonic fell unconscious, Wade came to Tom's defense by firing a warning shot at the Eggpod with his service pistol, warning him that he was messing with Green Hills' sheriff, with a chainsaw-wielding Crazy Carl joining his side. When Sonic then gained his second wind and stood to face off with Robotnik, Wade took cover upon Tom's orders. After Sonic and Tom had then banished Robotnik to the Mushroom Planet, Wade sent the watching residents away and had Crazy Carl return the chainsaw he had brought with him.

While at the speed trap on the outskirts of Green Hills in his Crown Victoria patrol car, Wade would greet Sonic upon his return from Seattle. Sometime afterward, Wade would act as Green Hills' temporary sheriff while Tom was on vacation in Hawaii. During the evening following Tom's departure, Wade welcomed Sonic and Tails to his garage, which he called the "Wadecave" and wanted to show to a girl other than his mother. There, Wade watched Longclaw's holographic message to Sonic about protecting the Master Emerald, which had the power to turn thoughts into reality, something which Wade noted was similar to the Marshmallow Giant from Ghostbusters before being shushed by Tails. When the message was over, Wade asked Tails if Longclaw was his dad. He also overheard Sonic and Tails' plan to stop Knuckles, which made him make an awkward comment about a boy nicknamed "Knuckles", and believed that if it was the same guy, they were doomed. He then saw Sonic and Tails head to Siberia through a Ring.

Wade is threatened by Emerald Robotnik, from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film).

The next day, Wade was on patrol through Green Hills, but he had to use a scooter since Tails had stolen and destroyed his police car without his knowledge during the night. When he came to the Mean Bean Coffee Café however, he noticed that it had closed early and sported a bad Health Department rating, which he did not think could be right. Upon peeking through the café's letter slot however, Wade discovered Agent Stone, whom he ambushed, believing he was a robot due to his Robotnik Control Gloves. Upon realizing that it was just gloves though, Wade had Stone surrender and tie him to a chair. While G.U.N. subsequently gathered outside the café, Wade attempted to interrogate Stone, but his good cop/bad cop routine did not work on him. He was soon after taken by surprise when Dr. Robotnik, with his new power, teleported into the café. Frightened, Wade was forced to take Stone's place on a chair, where he got handcuffed. There, he would watch in surprise as Robotnik formed his Giant Eggman Robot, likening it to the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man Giant.

Upon arriving at the scene of the robbery, Wade got exited about getting involved in the action. Suddenly, the group saw aerial Badniks arrive and try to tow the bank's vault away with them. When the vault then began spinning uncontrollably, Wade and the others took cover. Wade soon after ducked down while Tom destroyed two of the Badniks with his fishing pole. Since Knuckles had to know the battlefield, Wade decided to take him to Neon Nightz Lanes to learn how bowling is played, which surprised Knuckles when he thought it was a real battle.
