But when I reappeared, I was here.
Stuck between the Shatter spaces.
Yeah, the Void.

Shadow and Sonic, "Avoid the Void"

The Void[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic Prime television series. It is a vast empty area in the Shatterverse which serves as a gateway to other Shatterspaces.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Void is a vast expanse of space with purple coloration and thousands of crystal-like shards floating within it. At the bottom of the Void lies a massive black pit, described as "an eternity of darkness". Around the Void are Gateways to Shatterspaces, composed of colored hexes surrounding glowing white energy portals. The red Gateway leads to New Yoke City, the green Gateway leads to Boscage Maze, the blue Gateway leads to No Place, the purple Gateway leads to The Grim, and the yellow Gateway leads to Ghost Hill.

Inside the void are large astral projections of Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Rouge and Eggman, each of which is able to say a single line relating to Sonic.

History[]

TV series[]

Season one[]

The Void was apparently created along with the Shatterverse as a whole when Sonic accidentally shattered the Paradox Prism.[2] As a result, three of the five Shards of the Paradox Prism would go flying off (the red, blue and green Shards specifically), each landing in a respectively-colored Gateway, whilst one Shard (the yellow one) remained in the corrupted remains of Green Hill.[3][1] After he shattered the Paradox Prism, Sonic would soon be sent drifting across the Void into New Yoke City's Gateway as a result, while Shadow found himself in the Void after attempting to teleport away from Green Hill using the green Chaos Emerald.[3][1] Shadow attempted to enter the Gateways, but was instead thrown backwards every time, dropping his Chaos Emerald into the blackness below as a result. After repeated attempts, Shadow was able to briefly contact Sonic through the Gateways on multiple occasions whenever Sonic kicked up speed, which kicked up the Prism Energy inside of him.[1]

Following a shockwave Sonic created in New Yoke City, which spread across the Void, Shadow was launched to the outer reaches of the Void, and discovered the Gateway to the ] corrupted version of Green Hill, which found he was able to enter. After exploring the area, Shadow apparently returned to the Void.[1]

A short while after, Sonic would accidentally touch the green Shard in Boscage Maze, sending him back to the void, where he was flung to the New Yoke City Gateway again.[4]

Soon, Tails Nine developed the Shatter Drive and integrated it into an aircraft he created called the Shattercraft. After being forced to leave his lab in New Yoke City under threat of capture, Nine escaped to the Void in his craft, which was subsequently damaged by crashing into a large crystal chunk. Once Nine had regained control of the craft, he noticed the purple Gateway nearby, and out of need to repair a damaged engine, traveled through it to The Grim.[5] Afterwards, Nine would presumably travel back through the Void to reach New Yoke City.

Nine would later travel through the Void again, returning to the Grim with Sonic, who, although intrigued by the new area, asked to return to New Yoke City, to Nine's chagrin. In response, Nine reluctantly generated a portal, which Sonic entered, drifting through the void to New Yoke City once more. However, Nine would subsequently have second thoughts, however, and traveled through the Void back to New Yoke City, in order to assist Sonic.[6] Sonic would subsequently be teleported to the void again by a combination of his signature speed and the Prism Energy in his shoes, sending him careening into the No Place gateway.[1]

After accidentally touching the blue Prism Shard in No Place whilst saving Dread, Sonic would be sent back to the Void, where he was ambushed by Shadow, who blamed Sonic for the entire incident regarding the Paradox Prism's shattering.[7]

Season two[]

Sonic initially tried to flee across the Void from Shadow, but after realizing that Shadow was not an alternate counterpart, attempted to reason with him. Shadow reluctantly explained his perspective, and led Sonic to the yellow Gateway in the Void, and traveled through it to Ghost Hill. After a series of escalating debates, Shadow attacked Sonic again, and stole the Regulators from him, which he used to return to the Void. In pursuit, Sonic used his speed and the Prism Energy inside himself to teleport out and follow Shadow. The hedgehogs continued fighting, but were interrupted when the Chaos Council's Mothership (powered by the Prism Shard stolen from Nine) emerged from New Yoke City's Gateway, and entered the Boscage Maze Gateway. Shadow attempted to follow it into the Gateway, but found out that he was still unable to enter. While Sonic took the Regulators back, Shadow reluctantly agreed to work with Sonic to fix the universe, seeing no other option. Sonic then jumped into the Gateway to Boscage Maze, preparing to fight the Chaos Council.[1]

Season three[]

Trivia[]

  • Although first seen in the season one beginning episode, "Shattered", the Void was not named until the season two beginning episode, "Avoid the Void".
