Vesper from Sonic the Comic #92. Art by Roberto Corona and colouring by Steve White.

Vesper is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. He is a wasp native of the Special Zone. He is the leader of a vast horde of Wasp Marauders, and an enemy of the bees of the Hive.

Vesper attacked the Hive with his warriors, hoping to plunder its incredible wealth and become the richest person in the Special Zone. The bee soldiers were able to keep the main wasp army at bay, but Vesper and a few of his men broke through the lines and infiltrated the Hive, reaching the throne room of the Queen Bee. However, once there, the men were disarmed by Sonic the Hedgehog, who easily defeated Vesper in personal combat. Nevertheless, when Vesper pointed out that the Hive would still be overrun through sheer numbers, Sonic agreed to surrender the Hive to the wasps.

Sonic, along with various high-ranking bees, met Vesper and the wasps in one of the entrance tunnels to organise a formal surrender. However, this was all a ruse to get the wasps in one place. Instructing all of the bees to hold onto something, Sonic ran around the inside of the tunnel at super speed, creating a hurricane that blew all of the wasps out into the Special Zone. This allowed the bees to seal off the tunnels and better prepare for further wasp attacks.[1]

  • Vesper is named after the taxonomic genus Vespa, which includes the various species of hornet. (Hornets are a type of wasp, which are collectively grouped into the family Vespidae.)
  • Vesper and the wasps appear to be based on the Mongol Empire under Genghis Khan.
