Based on the giant moray, Utsubos are large red and yellow Badniks with moray-like heads attached on a segmented body similar to a caterpillar's. Their heads have a pair of pupil-less cyan eyes, a mouth with serrated teeth, a dorsal fin and a pair of pectoral fins. Their remaining four body segments have cyan window plates on the side, with the third and fourth segments having dorsal fins on them as well.
Overview[]
Utsubos appear as enemies/obstacles in the Wii U version and PCversion of Sonic Lost World. During the events of the games, the Utsubos got hijacked by the Deadly Six.
In gameplay, the Utsubos are only featured in Tropical CoastZone 3. While the player is grinding, the Utsubos will rise out from the watery walls early on and destroy parts of the player's Grind Rails. The player is thus forced to switch to a parallel Grind Rail next to it. Getting smashed by a Utsubo will damage an unprotected playable character and make them fall off the Zone.
When confronting the player, Utsubos remain stationary after emerging and will be impossible for the player to defeat in any way.
Trivia[]
Like many new enemies in Sonic Lost World, the Utsubo's name has not been listen in any official source. Instead, it is referred to as "utsubo" in the game's source code.
The name "Utsubo" is a Japanese name for "moray".
