Template:Character Utba (ウトパ Utopa?) is a human resident of Shamar who appears in Sonic Unleashed. He is a temple repairman, who works on restoring the ancient ruins near Shamar. Utba is very devoted to Hallowmoon and its tradition about giving thanks to the moon for bringing the night. Therefore, he spends his nights during this period praying to the moon. These nightly prayers, unfortunately, leave him sleepy and drowsy during daytime and making him unable to work properly.

While living in Shamar, Utba worked as a temple repairman, spending his time restoring the ancient ruins found just outside of Shamar.
During the events of Sonic Unleashed, the annual Hallowmoon event had arrived, where people would switch their daily and nightly routines as a way of paying thanks to the moon. Utba, being highly devoted to this event, spend his time during the night praying to the moon. This, however, left Utba extremely sleepy when daytime and nighttime came around, making it hard for him to stay awake during his work hours and nightly praying. At some point, while working on one of the temples in this period, Utba accidently cracked a pillar due to how sleepy he was.
At some point afterwards, during Hallowmoon, Utba met Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip when they duo first arrived in Shamar. As the two heroes asked Utba were to find Professor Pickle's lab, Utba providing the duo with the directions to the professor's lab.
Later on, during the day, Utba met Sonic and Chip again, and asked them if they had ever been to Empire City, remarking that he would love to take a nap in the big park there. During the following night, Utba met Sonic and Chip once more as he was drifting into sleep. Utba, however, merely stated that he was praying to the moon, before falling asleep.
Sometime afterwards, Utba met Sonic and Chip again. As Utba mumbled in his drowsiness, he perked up and told Sonic and Chip that he had to go back to work. There, Sonic wondered Utba what his job was, and Utba explained he was a temple repairman, before telling them about the accident with the pillar the other day. During the following night, Utba met Sonic and Chip once more as he was drifting into sleep. Utba, however, merely stated that he was praying to the moon at the moment, before falling asleep.
When Sonic and Chip restored Shamar's continent, Utba was jolted awake from his sleep by the earthquake created from the continent coming back into place. Seeing that the Earth was being restored, Utba believed that the restoration was due to the moon answering his prayers. In the meantime, Utba learned that Professor Pickle was looking for Sonic and Chip. Shortly after, Utba met up with Sonic and Chip again, and explained to them what he had just experienced and that he knew the planet would be fixed if he prayed to the moon every night. Before he could forget it, Utba told Sonic and Chip that Professor Pickle was looking for them. During the following night, Utba met Sonic and Chip once more as he was drifting into sleep. Utba, however, merely stated that he was praying to the moon at the moment, before falling asleep.
As Sonic and Chip managed to restore Adabat's continent, Utba learned of this event, and once again believed that the moon was behind it. In the meantime, Utba learned that Professor Pickle was looking for Sonic and Chip. When Sonic and Chip soon after returned to Shamar, Utba met them again, and told how the planet was fixed by the moon once more, confident that praying like he was did have an effect after all. He then told Sonic and Chip that Professor Pickle was looking for them. During the following night, Utba was praying to the moon once more, trying to thank it for fixing the Earth and for watching over them, but soon after fell asleep.
Later on, as Sonic and Chip were heading out to Eggmanland, Utba met them once more and asked Sonic if there was only one region of the world left to repair, before saying that he would keep praying to the moon in the meantime. He then told Sonic and Chip that they would see that the planet would be as good as new before long.
Following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus, Utba was rejoicing along with the rest of his town, as the world returned to normal.
PS2/Wii
Utba never made any real appearance during the PS2/Wii version of Sonic Unleashed, and only appeared during the cutscenes. Following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus, Utba was seen rejoicing along with the rest of his town, as the world returned to normal.
