One of the men helping to restore the ruins. Utba's incessant praying every night leaves him drowsy day after day. He's starting to wonder if you can't just pray in your sleep and still get credit for it.

Utba (ウトパ, Utopa^?) is a character that appears in Sonic Unleashed. He is a human resident of Shamar and a temple repairman who works on restoring the ancient ruins near Shamar. He is also a devout follower of the Hallowmoon tradition.

History

Xbox 360/PlayStation 3

While living in Shamar, Utba worked as a temple repairma that focused on restoring the ruins outside of Shamar.

During the events of Sonic Unleashed, the annual Hallowmoon event had arrived. Utba, being highly devoted to this event, spend his his nights following the tradition of praying to the moon. However, this left Utba extremely sleepy during the day, making it hard for him to stay awake during his work hours and nightly prayers. While working on one of the temples in this period, Utba accidentally cracked a pillar due to his sleepiness.

At some point during Hallowmoon, Utba met Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip when they first arrived in Shamar, who asked him where to find Professor Pickle's lab. Despite his sleep deprivation, Utba was able to guide them in the right direction.

Later on, during the day, Utba met Sonic and Chip again, where he asked them if they had ever been to Empire City as he would to sleep in the big park there. During the following night, Utba met Sonic and Chip once more as he was drifting into sleep, where he told them that he was praying to the moon before falling asleep.

Some time later, Utbat met Sonic and Chip as he dosed off, but perked up and told them that he had to go back to work. As Sonic wondered what his job was, Utba told him that he was a temple repairman, before telling about his accident with the pillar the other day. During the following night, Utba met Sonic and Chip again as he was dozing off, where he told them that he was praying to the moon before falling asleep.

When Sonic and Chip restored Shamar's continent, Utba was awoken by the earthquake created from the continent coming back into place. Seeing the earth was being restored, Utba believed it was due to the moon answering his prayers.  In the meantime, Utba learned that Professor Pickle was looking for Sonic and Chip. Later on, Utba met Sonic and Chip again, where he told them of his experience during the earthquake and that he knew the planet would be fixed if he kept praying to the moon, before telling them that Professor Pickle was looking for them. During the following night, Utba met Sonic and Chip again as he was dozing off, where he told them that he was praying to the moon before falling asleep.

As Sonic and Chip restore Adabat's continent, Utba learned of this event, and believed again that the moon was behind it. In the meantime, Utba learned that Professor Pickle was looking for Sonic and Chip. Some time later, Utba met Sonic and Chip again, where he told them that the planet was fixed by the moon again, confident his praying had an effect, before telling them that Professor Pickle was looking for them. During the following night, Utba tried praying to the moon again to thank it for fixing the earth and watching over them, but fell asleep.

Later on, as Sonic and Chip were heading out to Eggmanland, Utba met them again and asked Sonic if there was only one region of the world left to repair, before mentioning that he would keep praying to the moon and noted to them that the world could be fixed before long.

Following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus, Utba was rejoicing along with the rest of his town, as the world returned to normal.

Wii/PlayStation 2

Utba never made an in-game appearance during the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed, and only appeared during a pre-rendered cutscene. Following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus, Utba was seen rejoicing along with the rest of his town, as the world returned to normal.

Personality

Utba is very devoted to Hallowmoon and its tradition about giving thanks to the moon for bringing the night. Therefore, he spends his nights during this period praying to the moon. Unfortunately, these nightly prayers leave him sleepy and unable to work properly during daytime.
