— Description, Sonic Chaos[1]

Turquoise Hill Zone (ターコイズヒル・ゾーン[1] Tākoizu Hiru Zōn?) is the first Zone of Sonic Chaos for the Master System and Game Gear. As with other stages in this game, Turquoise Hill consists of two standard Acts followed by a shorter, third Act which contains the Zone's boss. Turquoise Hill Zone precedes Gigalopolis Zone.

Description[]

Very much in the style of Green Hill as a tropical-paradise-themed opening level, Turquoise Hill Zone is filled with grassy plains, palm trees, checkered soil, and loops. What distinguishes Turquoise Hill from its greener counterpart is the profusion of Springs all over the place.

Overview[]

Act 1[]

Act 1 begins with a ramp, from there the player can take some platforms to lead to a pair of Rocket Shoes, those Rocket Shoes will lead to yet another pair and the player should land on a loop. If one takes the diagonal springs, they’ll reach numerous Super Ring monitors making this stage easy to get into the Special Stage. If the player skips the platform, they’ll find the middle and lower routes. The lower route is more dangerous, having more badniks, spikes, and less rings than the middle. The middle route is straight forward with two loops and a corkscrew. The Goal Plate is just a little run after this.

Act 2[]

Act 2 begins on an elevated platform, the player can nab a Power Sneakers monitor. From here, the player can either take the lower route, or the top & middle routes. The lower route has a 1-up monitor and a platform leading back up, allowing the player to just take the life and continue on to the top routes. However, if they stay on the bottom route, they’ll find springs embedded in the ground to go over some very tall, narrow platforms. Being wary of the spikes, the player will find themselves at a loop with a spring next to it. Taking the spring will take them to the middle route. Running through the loop takes them to another spring section and towards the Goal Plate.

  • Now, if the player takes the platform, they can reach the middle or top routes. The top can be taken through the first loop if the player ignores the Boing-O-Bog. After taking a ramp and dodging a Boing-O-Bot, they can reach an elevated platform reached by a spring embedded in the ground. Either by taking the Rocket Shoes or by taking a diagonal spring, the player can then take a hollow cave to the end of the act. If the player somehow gets to the top of the first loop, they’ll find 16 rings, an invincibility monitor, and a diagonal spring. After some careful platforming, the player will find 3 Corkscrews with a Power Sneakers monitor in the middle, skipping a large portion of the stage. From there, they can grab some rings and reach the end of the act.

Act 3[]

Act 3 is exceedingly short, the player can grab some quick rings before facing off with the Lady Bug Boss

Boss[]

Well you don't look that hard

The Lady Bug Boss

Main article: Lady Bug Boss

Turquoise Hill Zone's boss is a single, massive Boing-o-Bot called the Lady Bug Boss. However, it possesses essentially no offensive capabilities at all, and simply crawls from one side of the screen to the other on caterpillar tracks. The spring on its back prevents Sonic the Hedgehog or Tails from simply jumping on it until the robot explodes; however, like its smaller brethren, the Lady Bug Boss is quite defenseless against a Spin Dash. Its weak spot is the head.

Trivia[]

  • Despite the fact that turquoise is a blue-green color, (and as a result is more likely to refer to the sky or ocean of the Zone than the pink-and-green hills themselves) multiple official sources have described the hills of Turquoise Hill Zone as being "turquoise".
  • Turquoise Hill Zone appears on the Master System box artwork for Sonic Chaos.
