Turbo Turtle[1][note 1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, turtle-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

The Turbo Turtles are turtle-based Badniks that are colored gray with yellow chest plating. They have green shells, along with a pair of red straps to help them carry a giant gray-colored fan on their backs.

Overview

In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, Turbo Turtles appear as enemies in both Acts of Titanic Monarch Zone. In gameplay, they waddle side by side. If the playable character gets close, however, they will aim their fans in the direction of the playable character and release a non-damaging gust of wind in their direction that will push them away, be it either horizontally or vertically. This gust of wind has the same properties as a fan, meaning the characters will either come to a halt when trying to run directly against the wind or be carried upward when coming down on the wind from above. Occasionally, the Turbo Turtle will stop using its fan and waddle a bit in one direction, before settling in another spot and continuing their blowing. They may also change the angle of their fans as well.

A simple Spin Attack can defeat this Badnik, releasing an Animal inside. However, the fans make it difficult to get close enough to this Badnik to destroy it when it is not changing positions.

Powers and abilities

The Turbo Turtles come equipped with large fans which can produce non-lethal winds powerful enough to bring opponents like Sonic the Hedgehog to a stop when he is running at full tilt against them.

Trivia

  • Turbo Turtle’s name be a pun on the word "Turbine", as its fan greatly resembles a turbine engine.
  • The appearance and coloring of the Turbo Turtle greatly resembles that of the baby Turtloids, another turtle-based Badnik. Whether or not this is the same robot repurposed for a different use or a completely new Badnik entirely is unknown.
