Turbine Loop is located on one of the decks of the Final Fortress, a huge flying fortress created by Dr. Eggman. This track has the players riding inside the turbine area of the Final Fortress. It is a forbidding leviathan of steel, chock-full of bottomless drops, screeching death lasers, and elite enemies - chief amongst them the much-feared Egg Hammers. Image of Knuckles, Amy, Sonic, and Shadow appears on the panels in main of the track.
In the background are floating screens, mechanical arms, and a prominent green holographic projection of Dr. Eggman's head. On the left side of the first corridors are also large windows giving a view of the sky outside the Final Fortress. The most striking elements featured in the background however include track's colossal red turbines and the Final Fortress's energy core, which is a sphere of fiery energy that floats inside some spinning metal hoops.
Gameplay[]
A couple of blue Eggpawns can be found along this track, which can be destroyed with Wisp power-ups or Power-Type characters. If anyone else besides a Power-Type character collides with an Eggpawn, they will take damage and spin out temporarily. At one point along the track are also mechanical handles carrying Egg Hammers across the road. Should the player drive into these Egg Hammers, they will spin out and take damage, even if their playable character is a Power-Type.
Overview[]
Turbine Loop is a fairly simple and uncomplicated route. The starting/finishing line is located in a darkened corridor. During this race, the player will drive through several corridors. When the race begins, the player will be driving straight ahead on a road with harmless moving objects on both sides of it, such as moving mechanical claws on the right side and floating monitors on the left side. Soon after leaving the starting line, the road will turn gently to the right, past the windows giving a view of the outside. In the next corridor section, the player will be passing by the green hologram of Eggman's head. Two turns appear here: one swinging to the left and then a second one swinging to the right. Maneuvering through these swings are made more difficult by the Eggpawns wandering across the track
The next corridor the player enters has a long turn to the right, with windows on the wall on the left and moving monitors on the right wall. After that, the player will enter another section which has Turbine Loop's trademark giant red turbines. Upon entering this section, the road will be straight for a long time. Along it, the road will rise and fall at different points, creating ramps for the player to jump off of. Eventually though, the road will turn sharply to the right, then head straight forward again, before turning to the right again. Eventually though, the road will turn to the left and lead straight forward. Along this straight sections are the track's infamous handles carrying Egg Hammers which the player must drive in-between. After passing them, the road will turn to the left before turning to the right again. After then heading forward for a while, the player will enter another swing to the right, which has the finish line located right after it.
Turbine Loop also has its own mirror image version of it where the left and right sides are interchanged.
