The Tricore[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of Power Core created by Dr. Starline that can amplify multiple physical aspects of a being.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Tricore is a black, polished orb with a swirl on top of it. The swirl itself is made up of three colors: blue, yellow and red.[1] If the Tricor's power is exhausted however, its swirls will turn black and cracked.[2]
Powers and abilities[]
The Tricore is essentially a combination of all three existing Power Cores. This include the blue ones for speed, the yellow ones for agility and flight, and the red ones for physical strength and durability. When harnessed by a being, the Tricore can amplify all of the aforementioned physical traits of said being at will, granting them speed, flight capabilities and strength nearing that of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles respectively.[3][1] However, it can apparently only amplify one physical trait at a time. When using the Tricore to amplify a physical trait, the user will be surrounded by an appropriately colored aura: blue for speed, yellow for flight, and red for strength.[1] Also, unlike the single-use Power Cores, the Tricore can be used rapidly hundreds of times.[4]
Should the user harness all three types of powers from the Tricore at the same time, they can perform the Tricore Blast, a barrage of attacks which is powerful enough to destroy a mech as large and powerful as the Egg Emperor. However, using this power will exhaust the Tricore's power, rendering it inert.[2]
History[]
Bad Guys[]
Following a successful raid of an Eggman base that secured him a load of Power Cores, Dr. Starline would develop the Tricore in his repository by combining the Power Cores for speed, flight and power. Once it was finished, Starline tested it out on himself, wearing it in his glove like he did with the Warp Topaz. Demonstrating impressive speed, agility and strength with the Tricore, Starline noted he now had the power to compete independently with the world's self-proclaimed heroes.[1] Starline later took the Tricore with him during his crew's attack on an Eggnet hub, but kept it hidden in his pocket. He later tried to reach for it when Mimic and Zavok began forcing him to comply with their own demands.[4] Eventually equipping his Tricore, Starline used its flight power to escape the clutches of his allies-turned-enemies, its strength power to counter Tumble's punches, and its speed power to run away. He soon after used the Tricore's strength power to launch a surprise attack on Rough, and then its flight power to hide from Zavok. Using then its speed power to defeat Tumble, Starline returned to the hub's main computer while using the Tricore's strength power to brace himself for potential attack from Mimic. After seizing Egg Base Sigma for himself via the Eggnet, he used the Tricore's speed power to escape the hub.[5]
Chao Races and and Badnik Bases[]
While at night in White Park Zone, Dr. Starline used the Tricore's flight power to traverse the roof of the White Park Grand Chateau after having hypnotized Rouge. He then used its speed power in an attempt to flee from Shadow when he spotted him. When Shadow caught up to him however, Starline used the strength power to knock Shadow off the roof with a log he tore off the chateau's roof.[6] Starline later used his Tricore's strength power again to throw a cart at Sonic while the hedgehog chased after him on a roller coaster.[7]
When Starline fell off the roller coaster, he used the Tricore's flight power to escape. Soon after, in White Park Chateau, Starline used the Tricore's strength power to defend himself from Amy and Rouge¨s attacks. Towards the end however, he used its speed power to lunge at Tails, but was then kicked by Belle.[8]
Zeti Hunt![]
While in Restoration HQ, Dr. Starline used his Tricore's flight power to scale the HQ's broken elevator shaft with his captive, Belle.[9] Later, Starline used the power of his Tricore to destroy the computer in his temporary hideout and escape the Chaotix.[10]
Imposter Syndrome[]
During a visit to Tails' Lab, Starline tried using his Tricore's strength power to open the door to the lab, but with no success. When he then had to withdraw, Starline used the Tricore's speed power as he fled back to base.[11] Later, for the test to take over Egg Base Alpha, Starline used his Tricore's speed and flight powers to enter the base and reach its control tower.[12] Not long after, Starline used the Tricore's speed and flight powers to invade and take over Eggperial City.[13]
Battle for the Empire[]
When Dr. Eggman came to attack Starline in his Egg Emperor, Starline used the Tricore's speed and flight enhancements to evade the mech's attack and then its power enhancement to land a blow on the mech's forehead. When that proved to not be enough, Starline used the Tricore's speed enhancement again to sped to Eggman's Memorial Garage and arm himself with the Super Eggrobo. When Eggman was about to defeat that mech, Starline finally resorted to his Tricore's Tricore Blast, which destroyed the Egg Emperor. However, that move drained the Tricore of its power, thus allowing Eggman to defeat Starline and strip him of his glove with the Tricore.[2]
Shortly after Starline's death, the now-broken Tricore ended up in the trash and was found by Surge, who promptly destroyed it by throwing it with Starline's glove into an incinerator.
