Tricky traps terrorize the timid!

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia[1]

Trap Tower is the fourth stage in SegaSonic the Hedgehog.

This stage is a key towards Eggman's Tower, but the player must pass more levels to actually get there.

Overview[]

At the beginning of Trap Tower, the player is pursued down a long straight path by what appears to be a large metal gear-like cylinder. The direction changes, and the chase resumes, except this path includes additional death traps such as electrical obstacles and spike traps on hinges that slam down on the floor at regular intervals. Once more, the direction changes, but this time, the path has crates that release Rings once broken open.

At the end of the path, one of the cylinders will crash into a pool of oil, causing a flaming torch to ignite the oil, forcing the player to climb up a wall that's dotted with proximity bombs. After the player reaches the top, there is a short path that leads to the end of the stage.

Trivia[]

  • In the "Revision A" prototype of SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Trap Tower features several major differences from its appearance in the final version:
    • It is placed as the second playable level, as opposed to being placed as the fourth playable level in the final game.
    • Several destructible pop-up barriers with Eggman's face on them appear as obstacles in this stage in the prototype, despite being completely absent in the final game.
    • The crates in this stage are indestructible and can be pushed, as opposed to the final game where they are simply immovable breakable objects.
    • The prototype features a functioning elevator at the end of this stage, leading to Landslide Limbo, while in the final game, it does not function, as the level ends before it activates.
  • The music that plays during this stage was later remixed as the theme for the Pinball Stage in Sonic Mania Plus.
