The Tower is a robotic enemy composed of various stacked parts,[2] with multiple cylindrical segments, a head, and a spiked base. Its "body" segments are covered in black, scale-like armor plates which can fan outward when the robot moves or suffers damage. Its head segment has similar "scales" as its body, but with the addition of a sloped silver plate with grooves evoking a simple face. Its base is a metallic gray spike which is usually buried in the ground, only being revealed when the Tower moves around. Finally, the Guardian has a thick black ring of scaled metal around its body, which can freely move along any of its body segments. Funnily enough, It shares a trait with the Ninja line, being that it has a similar color scheme to the Soldier of the same "rank"
History[]
Sonic Frontiers[]
The Tower was one of many Guardian robots constructed by the Ancients as a protector of their home, the Starfall Islands. It is unknown how many were originally created or if they participated in the battle against The End, but a few models survived to the present day, long after their creators' civilization collapsed.
The Tower's basic defense is to spin its ring at high speeds, damaging attackers if they touch it; the ring can also fire explosive spikes for a ranged attack. Despite its apparent immobility, the robot can lift itself out of the ground and hover in the air, moving surprisingly quickly to reposition itself and damaging nearby enemies with the force of its impact with the ground. Special models on Ares Island can also bring up crystals with their slam attacks.
Weakness[]
Aside from its ring, the Tower's entire body is vulnerable to attack. However, it is capable of functioning without most of its body segments; destroying them is primarily a means to bring its head into attack range.[2] Additionally, a combination of its flat top and reliance on the ring around its body for its attacks leaves it completely incapable of harming someone standing on its head. This weakness is especially true for the Ares Island model, who have no ring for protection.
Battle[]
Tower is a boss that can be fought in the open-zone areas of the Kronos Island.[2] It is notably the second Guardian to be fought in Sonic Frontiers, with Sonic needing its Portal Gear in order to power the first Portal he encounters. 4 special models also appear on Ares Island, as part of a Side Story mission.
Being one of the first boss battles in the game, the first encounter with Tower is mandatory for the player to advance forward in the isolated tutorial island. Once the player has beaten it the first time, the Tower becomes optional for the rest of the game and will respawn each time when re-entering the Open Zone field.
Boss guide[]
The Tower sits in place and keeps its ring near its head, firing projectiles at Sonic, The player should rush up to the Tower and begin attacking its body segments, gradually reducing its height. After losing some of its segments, the Tower will lower its ring to its base, uproot itself, and move to another location; its ring is temporarily forced to ground level when it comes down, giving the player time to hit its head if it's low enough. If Sonic can make it on top of the robot's head, he can attack with impunity (especially once he learns the Stomp Attack). The Ares Island models are a simple pattern, wait for it to slam into the ground, climb it, and Stomp it.
Trivia[]
The Tower located on the multi-direction bridge in Kronos Island is the only Guardian that does not respawn after a Starfall, thus if beaten, it cannot be refought permanently.
However, if the player does an Action Chain Challenge and defeats the tower and the challenge itself ends, the Tower itself will still be around.
Additionally, the only other way of refighting that specific Tower is via Battle Rush.
Interestingly, the "First Encounters" theme will still play for the first Tower encountered in the game, even after defeating it once. The same also applies to the first Ninja.
