— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Tornado, also known as LEGO® Tornado, is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Trap Item used primarily to obstruct opposing rivals' path.

Description[]

The Tornadoes take the form of circular yellow and black pads with a two-bladed yellow propeller on top of them, both as an icon and on the tracks.

Overview[]

Tornado item profile

A trio of Tornadoes, from Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.

In gameplay, the Tornado can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Charmy, Classic Sonic (also as Classic Super Sonic), Silver (Also as Super Silver), Tails, Jet, All-Star Amy, Popstar Amy, Punk Zazz and LEGO® Tails. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Tornado if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned users.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Tornado by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Tornado will drop its fans some distance ahead of the user's current location on all the lanes that the user is not currently on. If a character, including the user themselves, touches one of these fans, they will be left floating helplessly in the air temporarily while slowing down momentarily and also lose Rings. In addition, rival characters affected by Tornado will have their lost Rings transferred to the user of the Tornado. To avoid the Tornado, the playable character must either jump over its fans or run in-between them.

The Tornado can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the duration of the floating effect created when colliding with the Tornado will be increased.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to version 0.1.0 of Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, the Tornado's visual effect displayed a taller updraft (although it could still be avoided by being jumped over).
