The Tornado is a vehicle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It was a biplane originally used in celebration of Rachel and Randall's wedding, but was later used by Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles to battle Dr. Robotnik, during which it got destroyed.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Tornado is a vintage biplane with red fuselage and wings, a gray engine, a small clear windshield, and two small black wheels. It also possesses two seats, one on the front for the pilot and one on the rear for the passenger.

Features and traits[]

Being an airplane, the Tornado is capable of flight. In addition, after being modified by Tails, it received a pair of collapsible machine guns mounted on the sides of the propeller in the front that can fire explosive laser shots.

History[]

Film series[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]

The Tornado was first seen during the wedding ceremony of Rachel and Randall, flying over the ceremony with a banner tied to the tail saying "Rachel and Randall 4Eva".

Tails later got possession of the Tornado and used it to locate Sonic and Knuckles on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Afterwards, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles flew the Tornado to Green Hills through a Ring just in time to see the formation of the Giant Eggman Robot by Dr. Robotnik using the Master Emerald's power. As the trio moved in however, Knuckles jumped off the Tornado to deal with the Giant Eggman Robot alone, leaving Sonic and Tails to approach the robot in the Tornado alone. As the Giant Eggman Robot began firing missiles at them, Tails was able to steer the Tornado through the missile barrage, although Sonic soon got knocked off the Tornado by a straggler missile. Afterwards, Tails used machine guns he had installed on the Tornado to attack the Giant Eggman Robot's neck. However, the Tornado was mortally damaged when Agent Stone uses the Giant Robot's "'Stache Smasher" to destroy its left wing, sending the plane crashing to the ground and being completely destroyed, though Tails bailed out just in time.

Merchandise[]

The toy company Jakks Pacific produced a 2.5 inch scaled tornado Playset with 2.5” Sonic and Tails action figures.

Trivia[]

  • This Tornado appears to be a Boeing-Stearman Model 75 from the 1930s.
  • This incarnation of the Tornado sports a very similar design to the original Tornado that first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In place of Sonic's name, this Tornado has the number "761" on the side. This is the speed of sound in miles per hour, a reference to both Sonic (regarding him being faster than the speed of sound) and Tails (in reference to his full name, "Miles Prower").
