Topaz (トパーズ Topāzu?) is a character that appears in the Sonic X anime series and its comic series published by Archie Comics. She is a human working as an agent for the Guardian Units of the Nations and the partner to Rouge the Bat. Although at first, the regimental Topaz disapproves of the scheming Rouge and deems her untrustworthy, the two eventually become friends. Their main assignments involved striking at Dr. Eggman and retrieving the Chaos Emeralds, as well as serving as envoys between Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends and the government.
Appearance[]
Topaz is a human woman with peach-colored skin, a slim figure, violet eyes, and short sandy brown hair, often seen wearing blue earrings and pink lipstick. In regard to clothing, Topaz is notable for wearing different attire more often than most characters. Usually, it is a smart dark blue or green government uniform with black low-heeled shoes or dark blue combat suit.
She has also been seen wearing a purple shirt with a navy skirt; a more casual outfit consisting of a white sleeveless shirt, purple pants, a redwood belt with gold ornaments and redwood low-heeled shoes with gray soles; or even a light blue shirt, a black jacket and blue pants. While on vacation, she wears a blue and yellow striped bikini and a pair of red sunglasses with purple shades.
Her robot design was two shades of light blue and grey with a large mouth, helmet with a tinted visor, black belt, twin holsters with no guns and extendable arms resembling coils. When wearing her combat suit, she is normally armed with a Heckler & Koch MP5 sub-machine gun (SMG), used by many U.S. Special Forces and police SWAT teams in real life, as G.U.N. serves as the main military forces for what appears to be the USA in the Sonic X anime.

New World Saga[]
Topaz first encounters Rouge during an attempt to capture Sonic so he could work for the government to take down Dr. Eggman. Their bait had been the rumor of a Chaos Emerald in an old warehouse, but Rouge overheard this information that G.U.N. undercover operative Mister Stewart told Christopher Thorndyke and his classmates, and changed a road sign to send Sonic and the others away from the warehouse in the wrong direction, leaving Rouge to wander into the trap set by Topaz and G.U.N.. Topaz's captain recognized Rouge for her jewel thefts and brought her to meet the President as a replacement for Sonic. Topaz accompanied them to the President's office and was continuously annoyed by Rouge. Under orders from her captain, she got some coffee for Rouge just as the President walked in, accidentally spilling some on her hand and dropping the cup on the floor. After the President made a deal with Rouge saying she could keep all her jewelry and not be arrested in return for her services, Topaz accompanied Rouge and an entire unit of G.U.N. commandos to Eggman's base to map it for the upcoming attack. On the plane ride there, Topaz placed a fake gold, jewel-encrusted bracelet on Rouge's arm that was actually a disguised bomb since she still couldn't be trusted by the G.U.N. operatives, and was tempted to set it off when another argument ensued. They then parachuted down to the island and searched for an entrance to the base, but their captain could not find one through his binoculars. Rouge then flew off to the base and the captain tried to detonate the bomb out of thinking that Rouge double-crossed them, but Topaz stopped him as Rouge found the entrance near the building's top and threw down some rope for them. For hours, they went through the base section by section under Rouge's guide while a digital map recording the environment. Near daybreak they still hadn't found their primary objective; The Generator Room. Rouge falsely told them she knew where it was to snatch the Chaos Emerald in Eggman's possession. The rest of the team pulled out, and Topaz stayed behind with the digital map and detonator to accompany Rouge. They made their way to the Chaos Emerald, and a guard robot grabbed Topaz, and then used its speaker equipped with ultrasonic sound to deafen Rouge so she couldn't get near it, alerting Eggman to intruders in his headquarters. More guard robots quickly showed up, and Rouge had to contend with them while thinking up a plan, and one of the robots blew a hole in the floor, exposing the Generator Room's location to Topaz. Finally, Rouge broke off the bomb bracelet and threw it into the robot's speaker, and Topaz detonated it. With the speaker destroyed, Rouge tore a hole in the robot with her Screw Kick, grabbed Topaz, and then flew out of the base, right passed Eggman himself just as the robot exploded, leaving Eggman to get burnt by the explosion. Topaz thanked Rouge for saving her, and the bat told her to lose some weight, much to her annoyance at Rouge's lack of appreciation for the thanks.[3]
Topaz and Rouge later attended a briefing on how the attack plan for Eggman's base would be carried out with the President and several officials, though Topaz was a little angry that Rouge was getting all the credit. The plan was to make a frontal assault on the base with naval and air forces to draw attention with one ship coming up from behind filled with G.U.N. agents, including Topaz and Rouge, to infiltrate the facility and plant explosives in the Generator Room. The President ordered the attack to begin after spies revealed Sonic and his friends were on the search for a Chaos Emerald, meaning Dr. Eggman would be sure to leave his base to take the gem for himself. While G.U.N.'s navy and air force hit the base from the front, Topaz, Rouge and their unit went inside via sneaking in the back by blowing a hole in the base.[4]
Their movements did not go undetected, however, and guard robots quickly showed up to fend them off. First came a single giant robot that Rouge distracted so Topaz could plant a bomb on its foot that caused it to fall through the floor, then another robot of the same kind showed up and the group went off to the Generator Room leaving Rouge to her fight. This caused trouble as gunner robots appeared and the entire unit had to fall to the ground or be shot. Thanks to the timely arrival of Knuckles the Echidna, the robots were destroyed and Knuckles joined the group after learning their mission, though he initially thought they should leave since it was so dangerous. The time bomb was soon set, but Rouge had wandered off to the room above to see if the Chaos Emerald was still there and Topaz tried to talk her back down so they could take off. Their presence was caught on camera and the only exit was locked down by Decoe and Bocoe, sealing them in with the bombs, which would detonate in minutes. The metal was too thick for either Rouge or Knuckles to hit through and Topaz soon collapsed, believing this to be the end of them. Knuckles and Rouge weren't giving up though and pounded away at the door, and once the dents were deep enough, one punch from Knuckles made a hole in the door, and then Sonic made the hole bigger as he literally tore through the base with the power of two Chaos Emeralds after defeating Eggman in the E-18 Guerra-Hard. Rouge had saved him by pushing Knuckles out of the way when Sonic went by and was angry when she didn't receive thanks, leading to her arguing with Knuckles, and they didn't leave until Topaz yelled at them, reminding them that the explosives were about to detonate. The bomb went off and Topaz, Rouge, Knuckles, and the other agents were all on the beach and lay flat on the ground during the explosion, protecting themselves from any flying debris, and escaping with their lives as Eggman's headquarters is obliterated.[5]
Chaos Emerald Saga[]
While off-duty, Topaz is sitting at a bench overlooking a jewelry shop with Rouge behind her hiding in a tree, scoping out the gemstones on display from afar. Topaz calls her out for being a thief, and Rouge defends herself, which reveals she does plan to rip off the store for its valuable gemstones. Topaz then makes a scene by yelling to everyone to watch out for a thief and Rouge hides up in the tree, fearful of being caught because of Topaz squealing on her. After everything settles, their attention is then attracted to outside the jewelry shop when a limo pulls up and bodyguards line up on either side of its door. Out from the limo steps Nelson Thorndyke, and from the store window the two spies see him purchase a Chaos Emerald and have it placed on a ring. The two of them then follow Thorndyke to the studio where his wife Lindsey is shooting a new movie and spy on him inside a ventilation duct, witnessing the effect of a new Chaos Emerald being brought together with another, confirming that the gem is what they thought it was. They then watch events unfold from the studio's upper landing as Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe come to steal the emerald and Rouge soon flies down and snatches the gem right out of Nelson Thorndyke's hands in the confusion. While explaining why she would not give it back, Eggman snatched it from her own hands and becomes entangled with him and Topaz jumps on to his Egg Mobile to lend her partner assistance, but Eggman puts the pedal to the metal and then stops so they fly off his transport and onto Mr. Stewart, and the three fall into a tank filled with water. They got out fine, and Rouge observed to Topaz that all the other groups had Chaos Emeralds, and when the last one was found, something big would happen.[6]
When the President wished to use the effect of Chaos Control to send Dr. Eggman back to his world, Topaz objects to this, saying that they should consider the effects Chaos Control would have on the planet before taking any action in trying to use it. Topaz and a group of agents then searched for Eggman's base by tracking its signal and Rouge located it, and the two were ordered to hold their position next to it, where they saw Christopher Thorndyke and Knuckles enter the Egg Fort II and wondered what the two of them could possibly be doing there. They soon saw the Egg Fort II take off and immediately prepared to follow it.[7] Since it seemed apparent Chaos Control was going to be caused so the world would be rid of Dr. Eggman, Topaz gave Rouge a parting gift in the form of some jewelry with the usual attitude she had towards Rouge, but was red around the cheeks after Rouge told her thank you for it. Later on, they witnessed Sonic being beaten to a pulp by the E-99 Eggsterminator in their helicopter, but after Topaz asked the pilot if they could do anything, she found out there was no way to get closer in the helicopter as it was too dangerous. Rouge then flew in by herself and rescued Chris, who had stolen the six Chaos Emeralds from Eggman. He then fell from Rouge's arms and the Emeralds plunged into the sea where Sonic was with the last Chaos Emerald, causing him to transform into Super Sonic and easily destroy the Eggsterminator. Chaos Control occurred, and Topaz witnessed it all in the helicopter.[8]
Chaos Saga[]
Six months after Chaos Control occurred, Topaz and Rouge attended a meeting with the President on a plane in regards to what happened after the Chaos Emeralds came together. After hearing the government's efforts to track Eggman, who had mysteriously gone silent after the destruction of the Egg Fort II/E-99, Rouge piped up that the bottom line was they had no idea where Eggman was, and pressed on despite Topaz's attempts to convince her to stop.[9]
Later, Topaz and Rouge were in the President's office when the news reported in that Station Square had been flooded and then pictures of Perfect Chaos appeared and they both watched as the President ordered G.U.N. to attack it with everything they could still use that wasn't destroyed by the flooding. Topaz could only look on with shock and concern at the destruction Perfect Chaos had wrought on the city, then presumably its defeat by Super Sonic.[10]
Shadow Saga[]
After the Chaos crisis, Dr. Eggman had hacked into G.U.N.'s secure databases and recovered the only remaining file on Project Shadow and his grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik. Topaz and Rouge met with the President in his limo and were assigned to find out why Dr. Eggman had stolen the data. After they were left on the street to start their mission, Rouge suggested breaking into Eggman's base, but Topaz disapproved of it. So Rouge decided on different tactics; Going undercover and allying herself with Dr. Eggman, and for that they would need bait. For that, they flew to Angel Island, tracking the reading from the Master Emerald and Rouge stole it, but Knuckles was hot on her heels and made her drop the gemstone by dropping her to the ground. When Topaz ran to assist, her foot caught on a Chaos Emerald wedged into the ground. Topaz told Rouge of this, but she was determined to take the Master Emerald for herself, much to Topaz's annoyance.[11] After that, Topaz began monitoring Eggman's pyramid base.[12]
After Eggman blew up half the moon using the Eclipse Cannon on the Space Colony ARK, Topaz saw Sonic and his friends going into the base and reported it in. She then followed them in and ended up captured by the Egg Golem and used as a hostage by Bokkun. Fortunately, Mr. Tanaka distracted Bokkun so Cream the Rabbit could steal the Egg Golem's remote and used it to release Topaz, who was subsequently saved from falling by Mr. Tanaka. Sonic and friends were determined to go into space, but Amy Rose was concerned for Cream's safety, so Topaz offered to look after them, which garnered some respect from Tanaka.[12] Eventually, Topaz went outside the base and made contact with Rouge in the Space Colony to hear the progress on her mission, but Topaz was then cut off by Shadow the Hedgehog after he destroyed Rouge's communicator.[13] Contact was restored between the two when Rouge used a space ship's transmitter. The data Rouge gave her allowed G.U.N. and the police to prosecute a secret group within G.U.N. that had been covering up Project Shadow, but Topaz thought the arrest a little in vain, as the Space Colony ARK was now set to crash into the Earth and kill everyone on it. She watched it from the Earth's surface, and later saw both Super Sonic and Super Shadow stop it while talking to Rouge.[14]
Egg Moon Saga[]
After the ARK was stopped, the New Year came, and Topaz went on vacation on a tropical island. The first day she got up and lay on the beach early in the morning, waiting for the sun to rise. She talked with Rouge on the phone about her reluctance to come to the sunny paradise due to being a nighttime thief while waiting for the sun, and when it did emerge above the horizon, a solar eclipse took place because of the Egg Moon. Topaz quickly packed up, angry that her vacation had been ruined, and called up Rouge to complain, though the bat was loving the fact that the entire planet was dark. Eggman himself approached the President saying the Egg Moon had a mechanical bug that would take time to fix, and proposed that his new invention, the Sunshine Ball, be used to replace the Earth's sunlight using a satellite that absorbed rays from the sun and sent them to Mirror Towers which transmitted the light to the Sunshine Balls. When Topaz returned to the President's side, a Mirror Tower had been knocked out somehow, and a picture revealed the culprit to be Sonic. The President's secretary could not believe this as Sonic had always been their partner, and Rouge offered up that that might not be the case from Sonic's view. When Topaz asked her to explain, she made an elaboration that made President think Sonic might be doing this because of their alliance with Eggman.[15]
With the increasing amount of Mirror Towers being destroyed by Sonic, G.U.N. was ordered to launch a full attack on the hedgehog to stop him, which included Rouge and Topaz, the former traveling using her wings and the latter flying in a helicopter. While going over a forest area, Rouge slumped a bit in the air. Topaz got worried, but Rouge said she felt something and went to investigate and Topaz told the pilot to follow her. On the ground was a mechanical dome, which turned out to be a sphere with only the top half showing that not even Rouge could break. They then made their way to another Mirror Tower that was still functioning and had Sonic and his friends surrounded with Hot Shots. Sonic then explained to G.U.N. and his friends that the reason he destroyed the towers was that the Egg Moon could not block out the sun by staying in the one spot as Eggman claimed because the Earth was rotating and also traveled around the Sun, meaning the Egg Moon being in the same spot would not make a difference, and thus it was actually moving with the planet to keep it in darkness, meaning it was still under Eggman's control and not malfunctioning like he said it was. Topaz then reported this in to the President, and she and her partner went back with Sonic and his friends to the Thorndyke estate, where Rouge reasoned that since she and Topaz could not destroy the emitter that controls the Egg Moon they found earlier, their only choice was to bust the receiver on the Egg Moon itself, so Rouge and Topaz flew up in a space shuttle accompanied by Knuckles and Mr. Tanaka while the others dealt with Eggman, who had taken control of the White House and taken the President and his secretary hostage. In space, Topaz admired Tanaka's piloting skills. The two then admired the sight of the sun again, and Tanaka said they should enjoy the sun together some more, which she agreed to.[16]
Emerl Saga[]
After Eggman was arrested and incarcerated for the Egg Moon incident,[17] he was promptly freed by his last robot henchman, Bokkun.[18] The President then called for Topaz and Rouge to aid Sonic and his friends with recapturing Eggman, even offering Rouge a gem reward as payment if they caught the Doctor, which Rouge took with excitement, and Topaz was practically rolling her eyes. The two then had ice cream outside a restaurant and saw Sonic running by them. When Rouge asked what he was up to, he said he was looking for his friends, and Rouge asked him to tell them where Eggman was when he found him. Sonic made good on his promise when he made Bokkun deliver a message revealing that Eggman was in the sewer. Topaz and Rouge then went into the city's underground just in time to help Sonic fight the Egg Spider. Emerl then copied Rouge's Screw Kick move and used it to break down the gate sealing them in and destroy the Egg Spider, but it caused the sewer to be filled with smoke, forcing them to leave before they could arrest Eggman, allowing him to escape.[19]
Soon after, the President called for Rouge, Knuckles, and Sonic to enact his latest battle strategy, but ran into some troubles in getting the three to work for him. So the President quickly adapted his battle plan into a fighting tournament for a Chaos Emerald, and after Topaz, the President, and Scarlet Garcia helped to inflame Knuckles' ego to get him to participate, he was ready to fight too. Three days later, the Chaos Emerald Competition began, and Topaz was set to fight Mr. Tanaka in the fifth round of the second line-up. Topaz got into a fighting stance, ready to face him in combat, and encouraged him to attack, but Tanaka came towards her and then pulled out a golden necklace with a large gem and gave it to her and she hugged him with joy. Tanaka apparently won the round by winning Topaz's heart.[20]
Homebound Saga[]
Later, Topaz was stationed on a ship called the Seahawk. One day, thick fog surrounded the Seahawk and Topaz desperately tried to contact headquarters, but a disturbance was cutting them off. Then a huge object, like a ship, came towards them and the Seahawk disappeared and was cut off from all contact. It appeared as if the entire ship had mysteriously disappeared, when in reality, Eggman in his Egg Battleship had captured the ship and its entire crew, intent on using the ship's technology to investigate legends of a lost continent called Murasia hidden underground that led to the center of the Earth, were all the volcanoes in the world could be set off. When he fought Sonic and G.U.N. and the battle seemed lost, Eggman broadcast pictures of Topaz and the rest of the Seahawk crew into the sky for Sonic and the GUN Fort V3 to see, warning them that further attack could endanger Topaz and the other hostages. Sonic and friends held back, but G.U.N. kept attacking. Fortunately, Rouge managed to buy herself some time to save the crew and supplied Topaz and the crew with firearms to force Eggman to surrender. Unfortunately, Eggman quickly came up with a distraction by saying he saw a Chaos Emerald and slipped away when Rouge wasn't looking. After this happened, Topaz was left bemused by Rouge's greed.[21]
Once they arrived on the island of Murasia, the crew of the GUN Fort scolded Topaz for getting in their way of stopping Eggman, to which Topaz got offended of and ran off. Mr. Tanaka soon caught up with Topaz to comfort her and ended up smashing rocks with only his feet and hands. The last rock he broke revealed a metal box with a large diamond inside that they took for Dr. Cadberry to inspect. While Sonic and the others went down into the volcano on the continent, Topaz stayed behind with the rest of the elder humans to watch from a camera on the X-Tornado, and she shared a moment with Tanaka at Rouge's efforts with Knuckles. They then all felt an earthquake, and Dr. Cadberry informed everyone the volcano would be erupting soon and that they had to get away before then. Once the crisis had been averted, they were all on their ship sailing away from the ruins of the now lost Murasia, but not without proof that it existed. One such proof was a red gem Rouge stole, but it was quickly taken by Dr. Cadberry for more evidence, which Topaz could not help but smile at. She then joined some of the others in having a little cry at the apparent demise of Decoe and Bocoe, only to find out they had survived and were going to join the fight against their old master, Eggman.[22]
Soon after, Sonic and his friends were forced to return home, otherwise time would stop completely when their planets joined together.[23] Card Passer, one of G.U.N.'s generals found out that Eggman was building something and decided to attack Eggman and destroy him. In order to make sure it was carried out, he had men secure the President, and Topaz's last mission with Rouge was to free him. Topaz stationed herself on a building and maintained radio contact with Rouge, who sneaked in to where the President was being held and soon ran into Knuckles. The two of them quickly defeated the agents surrounding the President and then Topaz came in to check on the situation, smiling gratefully at Rouge for her efforts. Topaz later said farewell to Rouge, who gave her a brooch as a goodbye gift. Topaz takes the gift and tears fill her eyes, then she openly weeps as Rouge goes through the portal to return to her own world. Mr. Tanaka then comes over and places a comforting hand on her shoulder. Then Topaz witnesses the portal being shut down by Chris Thorndyke before Sonic could go through, much to her shock.[24]
Afterwards, as Chris ran off with Sonic to parts unknown, Topaz teamed with Mister Tanaka to try and find him, but were unsuccessful in their search. She suggested to the Thorndykes that she would have to call for assistance from the police and her superiors at G.U.N. to enlarge the search area as they did not have much time left to send Sonic back before the Time Suspension Phenomenon occurred if he remained on Earth much longer.[25]
Archie Comics[]
See Sonic Sea Battle[]
A week after Sonic the Hedgehog thwarted a bank robbery by Dr. Eggman, Topaz and Rouge accompanied the President to the Thorndyke Mansion for a mission involving him. The day afterward, they were taken out to the middle of the Sapphire Sea by a navy ship and dived into it with scuba gear so they could explore the lost ship of Captain Captain "Red-Eye" MacGuffin to see if a Chaos Emerald was in it due to the energy signal emanating from it. They soon found the ship and went inside where a treasure chest was located, but just as Rouge reached out to open it, a shark ripped through the floor and attacked them. The ghost of Captain Red-Eye handed Topaz a candelabrum to fight the creature, though it seemed to do no damage. Then, just as it seemed the shark had Topaz cornered and was going to eat her, it opened its mouth to reveal a set of broken teeth from where it bit the candelabrum. They found the treasure chest again, but this time, Dr. Eggman's Dragonbots showed up and attacked them, and Topaz was trapped under debris. Luckily, she was given time to free herself thanks to Knuckles the Echidna's assault, and Topaz was beginning to see what Rouge saw in him. With the aid of Captain Red-Eye, the Dragonbots were stopped and the group returned to the ship with the chest, which they opened up and found nothing but sea shells inside.[26][27]
Boisterous Bot Battle[]
Soon after this, Dr. Eggman put his next scheme into action: Using robots powered by Sonic's human friends so he could not harm them. Topaz was among the list of people and was given a gift in the form of a new computer she thought was from Rouge, but was actually a device that would trap her in a robotic body.[28] Once she had become a power source, the robot she was trapped within went to the Station Square Space Museum where Sonic and his friends where with all the other humans trapped in robot bodies. Luckily, Rouge had seen what had happened to Topaz and came into the museum and told Sonic what had happened to their friends. Topaz soon became embroiled with Rouge and Tails in a battle, and Rouge continuously tried to snap her out of it, but it was in vain. Once Tails and Rouge managed to escape her, the group of four were joined by Knuckles with Cream the Rabbit and Chuck Thorndyke on the X-Tornado, evening out the odds against the five human-powered robots. Rouge took on Topaz again and the latter used her mechanical arms to almost choke Rouge, but Sonic managed to subdue her in the nick of time. Tails then grabbed the remote controlling the robots from Eggman and handed it to Sonic who smashed it, freeing Topaz and the others.[29]
Wicked Sweet Shuttle Shenanigans[]
Topaz and Rouge were then given a new mission by the President after two sewer workers had discovered a hidden room underground with technology decades old, yet similar to that used by Eggman. Upon arriving at the mysterious room, Rouge began investigating while Topaz fruitlessly attempted to access an old computer. Rouge soon discovered a set of foot prints, commenting that whoever had been there had smaller feet than Topaz. Unknown to them, they were secretly being watched by Emerl. Rouge and Topaz almost discovered it, but Emerl moved from his position with amazing speed and they didn't see him, only felt a breeze. They were then contacted by Agent Cheung to return to Guardian Headquarters by order of the President for a new mission and that the area would be sealed off until they returned. They left the room in charge of Officer Albright along with another officer. They boarded a helicopter, and Emerl sneaked aboard using his speed. Upon returning, the President informed them their mission was originally for Captain Westwood, but that he was nowhere to be found and was handing it to them instead. He informed them Dr. Eggman had been spotted in Paris, France and they were to locate and arrest him. So they took the helicopter all the way to Paris, with Emerl still on board.[30]
They arrived and began searching for Eggman at the World's Fair being held in Paris, but failed to spot him, since he and his cronies had successfully managed to blend in with the locals. All the time, Emerl was following them. Soon enough, Topaz felt that Eggman wasn't at the fair, and reported seeing no sign of Eggman to Captain Westwood. The captain, eager to get back at them for upstaging him, ordered them to return to Washington. Topaz was surprised at this, and Rouge thought something fishy about it since G.U.N.'s intel was almost always accurate. Rouge took advantage of a slight loophole, saying that they shouldn't return until tomorrow when Nelson Thorndyke was revealing his new space shuttle, which was obviously Eggman's target. The next day, Topaz and Rouge scouted out the fair and Eggman made his move just as Emerl was about to reveal himself to the two G.U.N. agents. All the attractions at the World's Fair had been rigged to transform into robots by Decoe, Bocoe and Bokkun to provide a distraction, and when Eggman pushed the activation button, Topaz and Rouge raced into action. After Rouge knocked over a giant robot mime that had picked up a police car, Topaz pushed another officer out of the way before the robot fell on him. Before she was smashed, Emerl rushed to save her, and Topaz thought it must have been Sonic. Topaz and Rouge then met up with Tails and Amy Rose and quickly spotted Eggman being chased into the Hall of Mirrors by Big the Cat.[31] While inside, Eggman transformed the Scrambler ride and made it grow to great proportions, making it look like a giant spider. It crashed through the roof and Rouge flew her and Topaz out of harm's way, commenting that Topaz needed to lose weight. They fell through the floor into Paris's old sewer, where they met with Chris, Mr. Tanaka and Big. They all yelled for help and Sonic burrowed through the rubble, allowing Tails and Amy to help them while he dealt with the Scrambler with unknowing help from Emerl. Rouge flew Topaz out of the sewer and the latter then watched as Sonic fought the Scrambler before running out of the building. After it had been defeated, everybody then heard the sound of a rocket engine and watched as Eggman got away with the space shuttle. Topaz then gave a report to Captain Westwood while still in Paris, and he boasted that the President would be disappointed in them and that he had found some blueprints in the base they'd search, and told the two agents they would discuss them violating a direct order on their return.[32]
When they did return to Washington, Topaz took the full brunt of what Westwood had to dish out. He stated that if they hadn't failed their mission and stopped the Doctor, Eggman wouldn't have been able to get to Space Colony ARK. Topaz countered that the captain had ordered them to return to Washington and if they had gone back they wouldn't have been able to save the dozens of lives that they had. Westwood then said he was aware of this, and that the President of France had called their President to commend their actions personally, and that it was the only reason the two of them hadn't been court-martialed. Westwood then got in her face and said that he didn't like Topaz or Rouge, seeing as the latter came from the same world as Eggman and was an admitted thief. He then dismissed her with a warning that he would be keeping a close eye on her and her partner and a seething Topaz went back to her office to warn Rouge about the incident.[33]
Rouge goes Rogue[]
A while later, Rouge had apparently gone back to her old ways of thievery after security footage showed her robbing the Station Square Space Museum of its unique Moon Emerald. This matter was brought forward by Captain Westwood who showed the most incriminating evidence. Topaz fruitlessly attempted to convince the President Rouge was innocent, but he ordered Topaz and Westwood to take Rouge into custody immediately. But when Topaz and Westwood went to the former's office, Rouge was nowhere to be seen, further implying she had indeed returned to her criminal career. The next day, Sonic visited Topaz to try and see if he could help prove Rouge's innocence, but then Knuckles arrived and said she had stolen the Master Emerald. While Captain Westwood overheard this, Sonic suggested they lure Rouge out to help prove her innocence, and Westwood agreed, but with different intentions. So, a week later, Westwood had a giant cubic zirconium put on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, pretending it was the world's largest ever Chaos Emerald. On the night it was announced to be on show, Topaz accompanied Westwood, Sonic and Knuckles on stakeout duty, quickly starting a row with her superior over Rouge's innocence and intelligence, saying she wouldn't fall for the trap. The trio then noticed that Knuckles was gone, and saw him fighting in the sky. After Rouge and Knuckles landed on Sonic, Westwood fired a net on all of them, despite Topaz's protests. Topaz was livid at her animal friends being captured, but held her tongue. Rouge then escaped the net using her laser lipstick, and Knuckles attacked her so they both went flying through the Smithsonian's wall. Then the one who had been pretending to be Rouge showed itself, which was actually a robot created by Eggman. Topaz and Westwood watched as the three animals fought the robot Rouge and Westwood captured it and Sonic once he had a clear shot. Then Eggman himself showed up in a robot and crashed through the roof, snatching the fake emerald. Topaz and Westwood then watched as Rouge pulled the net off of Sonic and her robot duplicate and Sonic and Knuckles fighting the robot controlled by Eggman. Once Rouge had defeated the robot imposter and Sonic and Knuckles had disabled the robot Eggman was controlling (that was powered by the Moon Emerald and Master Emerald), Topaz gave a full report to the President and watched as Rouge was reinstated as an agent.[34]
The End[]
After the arrival and just as instantaneous leave of Shadow the Hedgehog of Mobius Prime, Topaz comforted Rouge who had hidden feelings of regret at not seeing her friend again. Topaz and the rest of the gang then stood around as Sonic and Chris Thorndyke looked on happily to their next adventure.[35]
Personality[]
Topaz is a loyal and determined soldier, though easily embarrassed and at times gives up too easily. Rouge often referred to her as an old woman, and Topaz later started striking her back by trying to expose her in public when she was casing a jewelry store to annoy her. She also finds Rouge's greed for jewelry to be tiresome.
Powers and abilities[]
Topaz appears to be trained in the use of military combat and various firearms. It also seems she is skilled at espionage and spying on others and is apparently physically fit judging by how she can jump fairly long distances with little effort.[36] She also appears to be trained to handle explosives, and can pilot cars and helicopters to a general extent.
Weapons[]
While on Black Ops missions, Topaz can often be seen carrying either a submachine gun or automatic rifle with her.
Relationships[]
Rouge the Bat[]
Topaz is at first intolerant of Rouge the Bat because of her jokes at calling her old, but admired her considerable skills as a thief due to their advantages on missions. Their squabbles and jokes at the others' expense led into a playful relationship of sorts and they even began hanging out together outside work. They became best friends and their relationship seemed to have helped build Topaz's character as it went along.
Mr. Tanaka[]
Topaz seems to have romantic inclination towards Chris Thorndyke's butler, Mr. Tanaka, which seems to have started after he saved her from falling to her death when the Egg Golem dropped her.[12] A while after this, when they had put a stop to the Egg Moon incident, Tanaka offered that they go off on a cruise together, which Topaz agreed to.[16] During the Chaos Emerald Competition, Tanaka gave Topaz a necklace made of gold with a red gem. Topaz was overjoyed and hugged him, but apparently it cost her the fight as Tanaka won by winning her heart.[20] Their relationship even became talked about by Decoe and Bocoe while serving the Thorndykes, wondering if they would have a strong bond with their children after getting married.[37] Tanaka has continued to care for Topaz,[22] and was the first to comfort her when upset at Rouge having to go back to her own world.[24]
