The Tonbo[1][note 1] is an enemy in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, dragonfly-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.
Appearance[]
Based on dragonflies, Tonbos are Badniks that loosely resemble the first variation of the Poh-Bees. They have a thick green and black thorax each with a pair of transparent wings on their backs, a black head with two red antennas each, and black eyes with orange sclera, four gray insectoid legs, and a thin abdomen with green plating on their tip each.
Overview[]
A Tombo, from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.
In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Tonbos appear as enemies in Tidal Tempest. In gameplay, they simply fly both back and both or up and down within their designated areas without attempting to attack the player, making them one of the least concerning enemies in the game. Despite this, they can still be a threat to the player if they fly into them while they are running or when they are using a Spring. Regardless, they can be easily defeated with any standard attacks such as the Spin Jump.
In the Bad Future, or occasionally the present timeframe of the Round, Tonbos appear decayed; their armor has partially fallen off and their eyes have turned blue. In addition, they fly around slower, but also more chaotically. Like most Badniks in the game, the Tombos are powered by Little Planet flower seeds, which will pop out of them when they are destroyed.
Powers and abilities[]
Thanks to their wings, the Tonbos are capable of flight.
Trivia[]
- "Tonbo" (トンボ?) is the Japanese word for "dragonfly."
