The Tonbo[note 1] is an enemy in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, dragonfly-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

Based on dragonflies, Tonbos loosely resemble the first variation of Poh-Bees. They have a thick green and black thorax with a pair of transparent wings on their backs, a black head with two red antennas and black eyes with orange sclera, four grey insectoid legs, and a thin abdomen with green plating on its tip

Overview

A Tombo in Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Tonbos appear in Tidal Tempest. In gameplay, they simply fly back and both within a small area without using any attacks, making them one of the weakest enemies in the game. They can be easily defeated with the Spin Jump.

In the Bad Future, or occasionally the present timeframe of the Round, Tonbos appear as decayed, their armor having partially fallen off. In addition, they fly slower. Also, like every Badnik in the game, the Tombos are powered by Little Planet flower seeds, which will pop out of them when they are defeated.

Powers and abilities

Thanks to their wings, the Tombos are capable of flight.

Trivia

  • "Tonbo" (トンボ?) is the Japanese word for "dragonfly".

Notes

  1. While not listed in any instruction manuals, in-game source code from the Sonic Gems Collection version of Sonic the Hedgehog CD refers to this Badnik as "tonbo".
