Tomatopotamus[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic Boom series. He is a fictional, non-anthropomorphic hippopotamus that can shoot tomatoes, and the titular protagonist of the Tomatopotamus video game series.[1]
Appearance[]
Tomatopotamus is depicted as a cartoonish non-anthropomorphic hippopotamus. He has a torso at about the size of his head, and a slightly longer-than-normal tail. His exact skin color is unclear, however. At some point, his legs were recolored.[1]
History[]
TV series[]
Past[]
Tomatopotamus starred as the main playable character in the Tomatopotamus video game series that was launched years ago. In time, Tomatopotamus received high acclaim from fans.[1] His design would also be used to create the ground-breaking video game character, Ms. Tomatopotamus.[2] As the series declined however, fans began to criticize Tomatopotamus: some bashed the character for being unsuitable for 3D games while others criticized his eventual redesign (wherein he received recolored legs).[1]
Season two[]
Years later, Team Sonic remained avid fans of the classic Tomatopotamus, prompting Sonic to buy Tomatopotamus 2 for his team when he found it at the flea market.[1]
Powers and abilities[]
Tomatopotamus is capable of flight by twirling his tail around like rotary blades. He can also shoot tomatoes from his mouth.[1]
Trivia[]
- The criticism of the recoloring of Tomatopotamus' legs is a reference to the real-life backlash fans from the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom demonstrated when Sonic's Sonic Boom counterpart was redesigned with blue arms instead of peach.
