The Tick-Tock Drone (チクタクドローン[1] Chikutakudorōn?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, drone-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance[]

The Tick-Tock Drone resembles a typical quadcopter flying drone, with the addition of a red dome featuring a lights and plating stylized to resemble Dr. Eggman's face. Beneath the drone's "mustache" is a horizontal meter bar that gradients from green on the left to red on the right. Underneath the meter bar is an Eggman insignia that will glow when the drone is active.

Overview[]

In Sonic Superstars, the Tick-Tock Drone appears exclusively in the background of Press Factory Zone Act 2. Starting from the very beginning of the Act, it will appear in the background and stalk the player throughout the zone. The drone will continuously count down, with the meter gauge on their body displaying their progress. If the drone manages to make it halfway through their count, debris throughout the Act will begin to combust, damaging the player if they are nearby them. If the drone finishes their countdown, it will then detonate the entire factory, resulting in instant death for the player. However, by stepping on the glowing buttons throughout the Act, the player can restart the Tick-Tock Drone's count and pause it for how long the player stays on the button. Due to the Tick-Tock Drone being in the background of the zone, it cannot be destroyed by the player and it is unknown whether or not the Tick-Tock Drone is powered by an Animal or not like most other Badniks in the game.

Trivia[]

  • It takes approximately 35 seconds for the Tick-Tock Drone to detonate the factory.
  • When its meter is halfway full, a countdown from "5" to "0" will be displayed above the Tick-Tock Drone.
    • Despite the values given, players actually have roughly 17 seconds to prevent the level's destruction.
  • Despite the destruction of the factory once the Tick-Tock Drone's counter reaches zero, none of the Badniks within the zone are destroyed alongside the factory, as only the player is affected by the factory's destruction.
  • The Tick-Tock Drone's gameplay mechanic mirrors that of the Hyudoro enemies in Sandopolis Zone and the toxic fumes in Oil Ocean Zone, except that unlike the drone, neither of those kill the player instantly if too much time passes before a switch is activated.
