Thorn Rose (ソーン・ローズ[1] Sōn Rōzu?), also known simply as Thorn, is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is an alternate version of Amy Rose from the Boscage Maze who is part of the Scavengers to protect her world.
Appearance[]
Thorn is a doppelgänger of her mainstream counterpart, albeit with some notable differences. As such, she is a pink-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog with light green eyes and peach skin covering her muzzle, inner ears, and arms. She has a dark pink fading to a lighter gradient fur on her head. Her mohawk-stylized bangs are also light pink and some of her quills are tied back by a yellow hair tie, while the others are in three small braids held by blue hair ties on each side of her head. She also has a small black nose, triangular flop ears on top of her head, and two medium-length eyelashes on each side of her eyes. Thorn usually wears blue and yellow paint marks on her face and forehead with dark pink marks on the edges of her eyes.
For attire, she wears a brown crop-top with a big green leaves-made collar, a white bandage on her upper right arm, a blue marking on her upper left arm, two gold earrings on each of her ears, a thin brown headband with wooden quills on each side, a green skirt with a dark green underside held by a blue belt with a pocket, stone bracelets with spikes, white gloves with pink marks on the fingers and wood backsides held by ropes, and boots made of leaves and tree bark.
History[]
Past[]
Thorn was originally a peaceful and kind person who loved the jungle. Upon realizing that the Scavengers were draining much of the jungle's resources, Thorn attempted to put a stop to their forage, but to no avail. Unable to bear the sight, she attacked the Scavengers and chased them off the jungle. She had since become known as "the Monster" and protected the jungle from outsiders.[2]
Season one[]
Birdie chased Sonic when he entered the jungle. Later, Thorn arrived to help Birdie and fought Sonic. Despite Sonic trying to explain things to her, she got aggressive. Thorn is later surprised to see Sonic taking care of some Flickies. She fights Sonic again until she notices the Regulators glowing on his shoes. She takes him to a giant palm tree known as the "Great Green". Sonic senses the Shard nearby and digs it out. Thorn hits Sonic and steals the Shard, using it to overpower her giant hammer.
Thorn and Sonic engage in a long fight, where Thorn runs away in Birdie while creating giant trees with the power of the Shard. The trees cover almost all of the lightning coming from the surface. Sonic comes up with a plan and lures her to the Great Green. Thorn accidentally destroys a part of the vegetation, and the light from outside starts to come in. She finally realizes that she was wrong all this time by trying to keep her former friends outside of the forest. Sonic shares some emotional words with her, and makes her feel better. The Scavengers arrive to watch the scene. Prim takes a step ahead and apologizes to Thorn, and the two of them end up in good terms.
Season two[]
Exploring the jungle, Thorn and Birdie finds her hammer along with the green Shard on it, but finds a broken vine, the one that Sonic tripped on before he accidentally returned to New Yoke City. She encounters some robots and fight back. Later, she comes back to the top of the trees to speak with her friends. She says she hid the Shard, and that they need to go down and take action. The others seem to be scared, and Prim suggests they give the Shard away. Thorn refuses and decides to go alone. Sonic quickly follows her. The two of them engage in a fierce fight against Dr. Babble, Dr. Don't and the Eggforcers. Eventually, the Scavengers come down to help, which makes Thorn happy. Despite all their efforts, the Council is able to steal the Shard.
Days later, the Chaos Council assaults the Boscage Maze by creating buildings that come out of nowhere via Operation: Chaos Terraformation. She and the others are speechless, furious even.
Later, Sonic returns to the Boscage Maze with Nine. They meet with Thorn, and Sonic asks her for help in clearing a runway so that he and Nine can make it to the Void with the makeshift Shard Case to get to Ghost Hill. She accepts and, with Birdie's help, starts fighting and defeating Eggforcers, leaving a big impression on Rusty and Black Rose.
Season three[]
When the Shatterspaces start to decay, Thorn went to New Yoke City at some point. Sonic encounters her while she is rescuing citizens with Birdie. She goes to the Council's main base, the Yoke, along with everyone else. When they find out some pirates are in trouble in No Place, Thorn decides to join Sonic and the other Roses in the rescue mission. They go aboard the Kraken. Despite Nine throwing everything at them, Thorn and the others are victorious in their mission.
Some time later, Thorn goes to The Grim with all the rest of the Shatter Variants to help Sonic confront Nine. As always, she hops on Birdie to combat flying Grim Birdies and Grim Rouges. When she sees the Scavengers are having trouble, she quickly assists them. At one point, she rescues Rusty Rose and Black Rose from falling into the ground. The three Roses unite as "sisters", and go fight some more troopers to show them their strength.
After the big fight, Thorn and all the others confront Nine in his lab. After a change of heart, Nine restores the Shatterspaces by draining Sonic's Prism Energy, which also stabilises the Paradox Prism. Seeing how weak Sonic is, Thorn gives him a ride with Birdie. Travelling trough the Void, Birdie gets hurt and starts going down. Thorn is happy when her sisters save them using the Kraken. Thorn and the other Roses say goodbye to Sonic, as Shadow gets ready to take him to Green Hill Gateway.

Personality[]
Thorn Rose was a peaceful person who was friends with the other Scavengers, as they lived their lives in the jungle. Thorn loves nature almost to an excessive degree, and she became concerned when she thought the Scavengers were taking more than they should, seeing them constantly taking and never giving anything back. Thorn got so angry about this spoiling the jungle around them, that she aggressively attacked them and forced them to live in the canopy above.
Unlike her mainstream counterpart, Thorn lacks Amy's compassion for others and her common sense, to the point of seeing sentimental values as ridiculous. Though Thorn is not cruel, she is very possessive and repeatedly refers to the jungle as "MY" jungle, much like Amy would refer to Sonic as her Sonic. She even takes the beautiful Prism Shard all for herself as soon as Sonic digs it up, and revels in the power it grants so that she can shut the others out forever.
However, after realizing that she was causing harm to the very things she loved by blocking others out, she wept at the realization that she had become a monster and decided to make peace with the Scavengers.
As shown in Season 2, she has shown to have her temper in check a bit, but can be prone to outbursts, and even knows what is right or wrong as she saw the Chaos Council as bad people and knows that the Shard can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. She is also supportive and helpful to her friends a bit more, as she helps them fend for her home.
Powers and abilities[]
Like her mainstream counterpart, Thorn's weapon of choice is a size-shifting hammer capable of dealing massive damage with no excessive efforts, which she can call out from an unknown hiding spot. Unlike the Piko Piko Hammer, Thorn's hammer is made out of wood and has some vines rolled around it, but the vines were taken off later on. When having the green Prism Shard attracted to it, the hammer has the power of Terraformation, being capable of manipulating plants, creating trees and roots. The head of the hammer appears to be made of stone or petrified wood.
Even without her hammer, Thorn is still very skilled in fighting showing great athletics and agility when she was fighting Eggforcers with no weapon on her.
Relationships[]
Birdie[]
Thorn Rose is very protective of Birdie. She is loving and caring of the bird, becoming concerned whenever Birdie became hurt. After becoming hostile to her former friends, Birdie became her only friend, creating a strong bond between the two. Once Thorn later realized the error of her ways, Thorn admitted she was selfish for restricting Birdie's ability to fly and happily let her go to spread her wings.
Scavengers[]
At first, the Scavengers and Thorn had a positive relationship with one another when they lived together. However, when the Scavengers started to constantly take and nearly deplete the jungle's resources, Thorn became furious and began attacking, eventually kicking them out. The two groups became hostile towards one another, with Thorn even willing to let them starve for the jungle. Later, after chopping the tree down, she would realize the error of her ways and accept them back into the jungle.[citation needed]
Sonic the Hedgehog[]
Like with the Scavengers, she treated Sonic rudely, but had slowly warmed up to him over time, especially after he made her see the error of her ways. She is supportive to Sonic and helps him in anyway she can, possibly as a way of gratitude for helping her. Despite that, they still get annoyed by one another. Sonic gets annoyed by her stubbornness and Thorn is often annoyed at Sonic's antics, but they both know they only want to do the right thing for their homes and friends.
