Welcome to the great wide open! Bumpers and flippers fling you across the maze like a little blue pinball. Springs let you leap to higher levels. Badniks fire sticky wads of glue to slow you down so they can attack.

— Description, Sonic Labyrinth[1]

Labyrinth of the Sky (空のラビリンス[2] Sora no Rabirinsu?) is the first Zone in Sonic Labyrinth. Like other Zones in the game, the Labyrinth of the Sky consists of four acts, with the three first being standard Zones while the fourth one is devoted to the local boss.

Description[]

The Labyrinth of the Sky is a pinball-themed maze in the sky. The color scheme of the background is purple in the first Zone, green in the second Zone, dark blue in the third Zone, and purple again in the fourth Zone.

Story[]

Having been deprived of his super speed and agility by the Slow Down Boots that are now stuck to his feet, Sonic has headed into Dr. Robotnik's Super Labyrinth to recover the Chaos Emeralds and use them to get the Slow Down Boots off his feet. Using his Spin Dash maneuver, Sonic is able to traverse the Labyrinth of the Sky, eventually reaching the labyrinth's boss, the Mecha Gorilla. Destroying the Mecha Gorilla after a fierce battle, Sonic is able to recover the blue Chaos Emerald that is dropped by the robot upon its destruction. Afterwards, Sonic spins towards the next labyrinth to recover the next Emerald.

Gameplay[]

Like with all the Zones in Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic's objective in the majority of the Zones in the Labyrinth of the Sky is to collect three Keys and bring them to the goal within a certain time limit in order to advance to the next Zone.

In terms of gameplay, the Labyrinth of the Sky is arguably the easiest Zone in Sonic Labyrinth, as it holds very few risks for the player. It has yellow Conveyor Belts that can move Sonic along them, as well as blue tiles that push Sonic in a certain direction with a quick dash. There are also orange Springs for reaching platforms and objects, Flippers, and red and blue Bumpers. Aside from the enemies, damage-inducing obstacles in this Zone includes retractable Spikes and rolling boulders.

Overview[]

Zone 1-1[]

In this Zone, the time limit starts off at one minute and fifteen seconds.

Zone 1-2[]

In this Zone, the time limit starts off at one minute and fifteen seconds.

Zone 1-3[]

In this Zone, the time limit starts off at one minute and fifteen seconds.

Zone 1-4[]

In this Zone, there is no time limit. When beginning this Zone, the player has to go down a slope with a large amount of Rings to collect along it and window frames protruding from the floor that Sonic can break through. At the end, the player will enter a hole and pass through a chute that takes them to the boss fight with the Mecha Gorilla. After defeating it and reclaiming the Chaos Emerald, the player will automatically move into Labyrinth of the Sea Zone 2-1.

Boss[]

Main article: Mecha Gorilla
SLSkyBoss

The Mecha Gorilla, from Sonic Labyrinth.

The boss of the Labyrinth of the Sky is the Mecha Gorilla, a robot gorilla. It is fought in Zone 1-4. This boss begins its attack by shooting a series of tiny robot apes. The player must dodge the onslaught in order to make the main monkey appear in the middle of the arena. While there, its arms blast off and begin probing the board, leaving the main body vulnerable. This boss takes eight hits to defeat.
