The Tech-Bot[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog television series. It is a mass-produced service robot created by Dr. Robotnik. Tech-Bots are robots designed mainly for technical matters, such as building, operating, and repairing various machines associated with Dr. Robotnik. The Knothole Freedom Fighters also sometimes use hollowed-out Tech-Bots as disguises.

Tech-Bots have cylindrical torsos and move around on a plate with four wheels attached to it. They also have two arms that have gray claws at the end, and a flat head with a black visor and a round exhaust that extend from the middle of their heads and down the back of their heads. They also have a similar exhaust on their back.

History[]

TV series[]

Season two[]

No Brainer 048

A Tech-Bot placing a Freedom Fighter in a Roboticizer.

One time, a Tech-Bot placed a member of a Freedom Fighter group caught by Swat-Bots in the Roboticizer. However, when Sonic arrived to save the Freedom Fighters, the Tech-Bot went after a Memory Scrambler. Although Sonic saved the prisoners, the Tech-Bot managed to hit Sonic with the Memory Scrambler. The Tech-Bot proceeded to inform Snively of what had happened, but it was unable to give him Sonic's current location. Later, Sally and Charles disguised themselves as Tech-Bots to find Sonic. Thanks to these disguises, the heroes were able to slip past Swat-Bots and reach the cell where prisoners awaiting roboticization were kept. However, they did not find anyone there. It was first afterward that they saw Sonic with Snively, who had convinced the amnesiac Sonic that he was his friend. Later, Charles hid aboard Robotnik's hovercraft in order to avoid detection by the Tech-Bots aboard.[2]

The Tech-Bots' history was later slightly altered when Sonic and Sally went back in time in an attempt to stop Dr. Robotnik before he came into power. While Snively worked on restoring the Roboticizer, a Tech-Bot accompanied Dr. Robotnik upon the doctor's instructions. This Tech-Bot launched the portal into the Void, which the King was imprisoned in, and it later led Robotnik to the room where the captured dragons were kept. It was soon after ordered by Robotnik to roboticize all dragons.[3]

Cry of the Wolf 174

Back in the present, a Tech-Bot would later repair the test Doomsday Pod in the Great Unknown for Snively. There, it would inform Snively about how long it would take them to complete the repairs. Later, at Snively's order, the Tech-Bot launched the heat scanners onboard Robotnik's hovercraft to see if the Wolf Pack or the Knothole Freedom Fighters were nearby.[4] Later, a Tech-Bot would be stationed onboard Dr. Robotnik's Command Ship. At the doctor's order, the Tech-Bot turned on the ship's heat sensors to find Sonic in Drood Henge, before having the Command Ship take off.[5] Sometime later, a Tech-Bot found a spying bug from Charles in Robotnik's headquarters and damaged it. It then put the bug back where it found it so that Charles would come back to fix it, thereby allowing Robotnik to capture him. At the same time, another Tech-Bot with a built-in camera began to search Robotropolis for unwanted signals. It soon after located Charles's hideout and send Swat-Bots there to catch him. After Charles was rescued by Sonic, he went to his second hideout, where he showed Sonic, Sally and Bunnie a Tech-Bot disguise of his, which he intended to use to continue spying on Robotnik.[6] Later, during the Doomsday Project, Tech-Bots would operate the Doomsday Machine, but they did not detect the Knothole Freedom Fighters sneaking past them.[1]

Personality[]

Like some of Robotnik's machines, the Tech-Bots are capable of speech. Other than that however, they lack any form of sentience or distinct personalities. However, they know to respond to opposition and react accordingly.[2]

Powers and abilities[]

The Tech-Bots possess telescopic arms.[2] They also have an additional third arm on a long cable that they can protrude from their chassis. Some also have built-in cameras that they can protrude by opening up their heads like a lid.[6] They also know how to make use of weapons around them.[2]
