Overview[]

KingoftheHillTSR

Sonic competing in a Team King of the Hill Event.

In Team King of the Hill Events, the player competes in a basic race that adhere to the basic rules and gameplay mechanics of a Team Race in Team Sonic Racing. As such, the player competes as a single playable character with two teammates to race with and rival teams to race against. Up to four teams of three can compete in this Event, for a total of twelve racers at a time. The teams' different standings during a race are displayed on the left side of the HUD and is constantly updated. Each team on this display also has its own color, which makes it possible to identify the characters who are backlit with these colors. Out on the race track, rival racers are highlighted in red. Racers can also pick up power-ups from the Item Boxes on the race tracks and use them against rival racers. Teammates, however, are unaffected by the player's power-ups. The racers can also pull off various team maneuvers, such as the Item Box Transfer, Slingshot, Skim Boost, Rival Takedown and Team Ultimate.

In King of the Hill Events, the player competes against other racers for the first position in a race along a track which has no lap limit. The racer who manages to take the first position will begin collecting points automatically their entire team.

The amounts of points the teams have collected during the race, and the amount needed to win the Event, are displayed by a point gauge on top of the screen. Inside it is a growing yellow bar. This bar shows the amount of points the team in the lead has gathered for themselves. The team icon on the right side of the yellow bar indicate which team the bar belongs to. When a new team or one of its members takes over the first position in the race however, the yellow bar inside the point gauge will switch over to the yellow bar belonging to that team and begin showing their progress. At the same time, the point gauge will also show how far the team with the most points has gotten by displaying their team icon where they have gotten to on the point gauge.

A Team King of the Hill Event will be completed when the point gauge is filled up completely by a team. That team is then declared the winner of the Team King of the Hill Event. Also, after concluding a Team King of the Hill Event, the result screen will display the total time each member of the teams spend in the first position.
