In the latest episode of Ian Flynn's podcast, he confirmed that, according to Sega, Sonic Chronicles (and also Knuckles' Chaotix) is non-canonical. I think this is something that needs to be addressed on the wiki. I think the best way to do this would be to keep all Sonic Chronicles related information on other pages contained to its own section, without bleeding over into main character biographies and such. For the most part this is how things already are.
Profiles like Pachacamac's, however, are problematic. Instead of describing his role and story in each game (Sonic Adventure and Sonic Chronicles) separately, they've been blended together like a biography. This isn't a great approach, as it removes information from its source and context. By tackling each story on a game by game basis then the wiki is essentially future-proofed for any changes in the lore/canon.
I used this as an example on another Talk page, but it's like how Knuckles was the guardian of the Floating Island's 7 Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 3, but in future games he's the guardian of the Master Emerald. The contradictions should be acknowledged, and all text should be appropriate to the specific game being discussed.
I had to fight a little to get things like characters' previous ages acknowledged (example: Vector was 16 in Chaotix, 20 in Sonic Heroes). I wanted a similar approach to be taken with the "3000 years ago" (Sonic Adventure)/"4000 years ago" (Sonic Chronicles) contradiction about the Knuckles Clan, but at the time Ultrasonic9000 shot the idea down - "we go with the most recent information". Now several articles need updating, because instead of just acknowledging the contradiction and treating each game's story individually we chose to exclusively pick one that it now turns out is non-canonical.
- I already found out from Evan Stanley that Chronicles was not canon and I began making the necessary changes to the Gizoids pages and Knuckles Clan pages to make them appear non-canon. This required quite a lot of work put into Emerl as he was coated in this information. I skipped out on Pachacamac, I admit. However, almost every other character involved now has Chronicles listed under "Other game appearances" to indicate that they are non-canon. So yes, I already agree with you because I am already aware of the information. DECOOL! (talk) 08:40, August 18, 2020 (UTC)
