This page should be moved back to "Dust Hill Zone." Back in 2008, Yasuhara was asked about the name of the mockup desert screenshot, and he identified it as Dust Hill Zone. The topic that describes the details of that conversation is here. Just because the newest Sonic 2 prototypes calls Mystic Caves "Dust Hill" does not mean the desert level did not have that name. We don't know why Mystic Caves has that name. It could be placeholder, it could be they intended to call it that after the desert level was removed. What we do not have is enough information that "Sand Shower Zone" was definitively the desert mock up image we have, and certainly there is proof that even if it was, it was also called "Dust Hill." The man who made Sonic 2 said it as such.

I know we all get excited at new information, but we shouldn't forget the old. You can explain it is possible that it was called "Sand Shower" at one point. You can theorize why Mystic Caves was labeled as "Dust Hill." But the desert screenshot? The one that Brenda Ross made the art for? It's Dust Hill. Thank you for bringing this to light. I will make the edits to the pages necessary. DECOOL! (talk) 22:49, November 12, 2019 (UTC)
I politely object. The new prototype is objective proof that Dust Hill was simply a prototype name for Mystic Cave, which, mind you, was something the Sonic Retro boards had been theorising on for at least two years. Name logistics, slot position... all of that pointed towards the identity of Dust Hill Zone. And indeed, if they weren't planning on calling Mystic Cave "Dust Hill" and were planning a re-name for a while, then why would the first prototype with title cards call it Dust Hill? What's more, the interview with Brenda Ross also contains hints to the opposite. Brenda Ross always called the desert level just that. The Desert Level. I have a lot of work to do right now. It's possible that Sand Shower Zone was another sand-based level. I mean, if Yasuhara himself identified the screenshots as Dust Hill then who's to say he's incorrect on that fact. There have been similar-themed levels in the same Sonic game before, like Emerald Hill and Hill Top. I believe that it was a simple mistake to call Mystic Cave "Dust Hill". DECOOL! I know this is a few years late, but after rereading Brenda Ross' interview, I noticed that she refers to the desert level as "Dust Hill" multiple times, and sometimes as just "desert", and not once does she mentions Mystic Cave at all. GuKeltke (talk) 00:04, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
