You can dodge that light - blade boomerang thing by jumping over it!

Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog

The swift strike,[1] also referred to as the Boomerang Attack,[2] is a move that appears in Shadow the Hedgehog. It is a technique used by Black Doom during the battles against him.

Description

When performing swift strike, Black Doom forms a purple boomerang-shaped energy construct above himself and drops it down on floor level where it spins towards the opponent.

In the battle with Black Doom, the alien overlord uses the swift strike in random intervals. The attack has a long range and can bounce off walls, but it has limited speed, making it easy to predict over long distances.
