Super Sonic is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It is a transformation of Sonic the Hedgehog, achieved by harnessing the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds.
Appearance[]
When transformed into Super Sonic, Sonic's proportions remain unchanged for the most part, and he still wears the same gloves and Fila
shoes he normally wears. Various changes include his blue fur gaining a glossy sheen and becoming golden yellow in color, his green irises turning red, and the quills on his head pointing upwards. He also possesses a soft, golden aura that displays faint sparkles.
History[]
Film series[]
Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]
After the Master Emerald broke down and released the seven Chaos Emeralds, Sonic inadvertently used the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic before Dr. Robotnik could stomp on him, Tom, and Maddie in the Giant Eggman Robot. After keeping the Giant Eggman Robot from crushing his foster family with its feet, Super Sonic ripped its head off and exposed Robotnik, declaring to the doctor that their battle was over. As the doctor faked trying to make peace with the hedgehog, he tried to punch him with the Giant Eggman Robot, only for Super Sonic to stop it effortlessly without even breaking eye contact with the doctor. Super Sonic proceeded to destroy both of the mech's fists and then zipped straight through it multiple times to damage it beyond repair. As a final move, the hedgehog tipped the Giant Eggman Robot over with a tap of his foot, apparently sending Robotnik to his demise with his robot. When Super Sonic returned to his friends, Knuckles initially believed that Sonic had been driven mad with power, only to see that he was wrong when the hedgehog summoned two chili dogs for them to eat, with Knuckles' chili dog landing on his face and splattering all over it, much to Knuckles' ire and humiliation. Following this, Sonic released the Chaos Emeralds, having deemed himself not mature enough yet to wield their power, and they flew off to parts unknown.

Powers and abilities[]
Due to being infused with the seven Chaos Emeralds' power, Super Sonic possesses what he has deemed himself to be god-like power; Tails even described Super Sonic as the most powerful hero in the universe.
As Super Sonic, Sonic's innate talents far surpasses his normal ones. His strength has been increased to such levels that he can effortlessly overpower a punch from a giant mech like the Giant Eggman Robot with a single hand. Super Sonic also has incredible durability, able to catch a punch from the Giant Eggman Robot's colossal fist without hurting himself. His speed has also increased dramatically, enough to let him circle the Giant Eggman Robot multiple times in a matter of seconds and slice its head off with sheer speed, and he possesses improved reflexes and agility to match his improved movements. In addition, Super Sonic has been granted the power of high-speed flight.
Seemingly possessing the power to turn thoughts into reality, Super Sonic also has the ability to manifest objects at will; to do this, he can summon a storm cloud and the object is created from a lightning bolt, or he can simply create objects out of thin air. For example, he was able to conjure two chili dogs for himself and Knuckles.
Trivia[]
- Super Sonic is based on the transformation of the same name from the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
- Super Sonic was supposed to appear in the first Sonic the Hedgehog film, according to early drafts of the script. However, the transformation was cut. The reason for it was because it did not make any sense to be included this early and because Jeff Fowler wanted to primarily focus more onto the origins of Sonic and Dr. Robotnik's relationship before introducing the other elements.[1]
- Strangely, the eye color on the 2.5" Jakks Pacific articulated figure are green and not the usual red.
- A toy Super Sonic toy for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 fixed it and showed the usual red instead of green, which is a 2.5 figure.
- Super Sonic is the only character added to Sonic Dash after the release of Sonic Forces: Speed Battle to have a notably different render in both games, whereas most characters who appear in both games share a render between the two.
- The move Super Sonic uses to punch multiple holes in the Giant Eggman Robot bears resemblance to the Light Speed Attack and Super Sonic Power.
- Sonic's super model was later reused for Shadow the Hedgehog's model in the mid-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 but with the colors changed as they didn't have enough time to make an actual model for Shadow.
- This is the first Super Form to appear in the Sonic Cinematic Universe.
