The root of all our problems... I will defeat you, Solaris!

— Super Silver, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Super Silver (スーパーシルバー Sūpā Shirubā?) is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the Super State of Silver the Hedgehog, achieved by harnessing the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds.

Appearance[]

Following the traditional Super State, visual changes to Silver while in this form include a bright pale golden color replacing his normally silver-white fur, and his white mane becomes a darker yellow golden color that floats up behind his head. Like Super Sonic and Super Shadow, he has ruby red eyes and his quills float. The two on the back of his head point upwards, while the five on his forehead push forward and spread out, with the bottom two pointing upwards. The teal glow on his gloves, cuffs and boots turns into a bright yellow color as well and he gains a golden aura.

Game appearances[]

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)[]

After gathering all the Chaos Emeralds and reviving Sonic in his Super State, Silver and Shadow received power from Super Sonic, allowing them to assume their Super States to help Super Sonic defeat Solaris. After an epic battle, the heroes were victorious. Super Silver and his allies rejoined their jubilant friends as they watch Solaris implode, allowing Sonic and Elise to erase Solaris from the timeline entirely, along with Super Silver's involvement in the conflict.

Other game appearances[]

Sonic Dash[]

In Sonic Dash, Super Silver appears as one of the playable characters. In this game, he can be unlocked after obtaining 150 of his character cards.

Powers and abilities[]

SuperSilverShield

Super Silver using the Shield of Light, from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

Due to being infused with the seven Chaos Emeralds' power, Super Silver accordingly commands ultimate power and has access to unlimited energy.[1][2] In his Super State, all of Silver's innate abilities are vastly enhanced, giving him an exceptional increase in strength and speed that rivals both Super Sonic and Super Shadow's. He also has improved reflexes to match his upgraded movements and those of his enemies. In addition, Super Silver possesses all the standard abilities of the traditional Super State. He now has the ability to fly without the need of his psychokinesis and he can perform small midair dashes at incalculable speeds. He is also virtually invulnerable to all harm, although it can be bypassed when enough force is applied.

The power of Silver's psychokinetic abilities has been increased following his transformation, allowing him to use empowered moves such as the Shield of Light, where he creates a large shield of telekinetic energy which can stop all projectiles within the radius and then throw them back a great distance. He has also free access to various chaos powers, such as Chaos Control which lets him bend time and space to his will.

In the IDW Comics, Super Silver has been shown to be able to remove viruses at the molecular level from every living being with his Psychokinesis while moving at supersonic speeds. It also appears he possesses a level of extrasensory perception (ESP) as he was able to tell Super Sonic when he 'detected' there was no more virus left in the world.[3][4]

Weakness[]

Super Silver can only stay transformed for a short time without sustainment from Ring Energy, as a Super State consumes tremendous amounts of energy.

All or Nothing[]

The Return of Super Silver

Super Silver, from Sonic the Hedgehog #29.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, Silver entered the form of Super Silver after he and Sonic (who became Super Sonic) acquired the final Chaos Emerald from Giant Zavok. Super Sonic proceeded to beat back Zavok, forcing him back down to his normal form. To get rid of the Metal Virus around the world, Super Sonic used the Warp Topaz to open a Super Warp Portal and Super Silver used his enhanced psychokinesis to remove the virus from every infected living thing on the planet. Super Sonic had opened the portal up to the sun, where the virus was immediately destroyed. As the Warp Topaz began to spin out of control, the duo flew around the world several times at super sonic speed, removing more Metal Virus at a faster pace. Once Super Silver detected that there was no more Metal Virus left, Super Sonic decided to throw the Warp Topaz away through the Super Warp Portal. However, due to the extreme instability of the Warp Topaz, this action backfired and instead created an explosion (that Sonic disappeared through) that subsequently caused a distorted green gate of energy in the sky. Super Silver was thrust onto the island and slowly turned back to normal.[3]

Quotes[]

"I'll take care of this!"
—Super Silver, when switching to him during the fight with Solaris, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
"This is the end! Prepare to meet your doom!"
—Super Silver when facing Solaris, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
"I will protect the future!"
—Super Silver when attacking Solaris in the future, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Theme song[]

Super Silver's Super Form theme from Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.

"Super Form: Super Silver" - Super Silver's theme in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is a shortened remix of Team Ultimate:Silver from Team Sonic Racing. This, in turn, is a remix of Silver's theme; Dreams of an Absolution.

Super silver final

Super Silver artwork from the Sonic Art Assets DVD.

  • Super Silver is the only character who can damage Solaris before any of his shields are destroyed.
  • Super Silver is the only character whose Super Gauge is pre-filled in the Solaris fight.
  • The artwork of Super Silver in Sonic Art Assets DVD is an edited version of Silver's Sonic Rivals 2 artwork. The only differences (other than the color and aura) are that the expression on his mouth is different and his two back quills are pointing upwards.
  • The artwork of Super Silver in Sonic Forces: Speed battle and Sonic Dash is based on a modified version of Silver's character banner artwork from Sonic Channel.
    • incidentally, a piece of 2D stock artwork for Super Silver uses the same base artwork.
  • In the scene where Silver transforms in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), there is nothing on his gloves and his eyes are missing. However, the in-game character model and in all cutscenes past "Wishing Upon the Chaos Emeralds" show that Super Silver has red eyes and that the symbols on his gloves now glow a shade of gold instead of their usual cyan.
  • Super Silver having a golden mane may be a reference to earlier concept artwork of Silver, where his mane was depicted as yellow compared to his final design where it is colored white.
  • Super Silver is one of the few Super Forms where the user's attire changes color in some form. The aqua symbols on his gloves, along with the aqua lines on his cuffs, change to golden. In recent games, the cyan hexagons on the bottom of his shoes also change to yellow.
    • Interestingly, despite the fact they match the color of his Psychokinesis in his base form, his Psychokinesis remains cyan as Super Silver.
  • Super Silver is indirectly referenced in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. In the Codex's entry on the Chaos Emeralds, it is stated that Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and a variety of other people have been known to use the power of the Emeralds to achieve powered up states.
