Sunset Heights (サンセットハイツ Sansetto Haitsu?) is the fourth stage in Shadow Generations. It is primarily based on the level of the same name from Sonic Forces, as well as taking some inspiration from other City stages in Sonic Forces, including Enemy Territory, Park Avenue, Ghost Town, and Red Gate Bridge.

Description[]

Sunset Heights is a quaint downtown area in the city that has since been besieged and destroyed by Dr. Eggman's robot armies, turning it into an all-out war zone.

Story[]

After defeating the Biolizard, Shadow encounters Black Doom, who tells him that they're both not complete, when they are, they will fight. Shadow obtains the Doom Surf power and uses it to find a version from the future of Sunset Heights (or Kingdom Valley).

Mid-way through, the Doom's Eye appears and sends him to the Doom Zone once again. Shadow hits him and takes the third token from him before getting sent back to Sunset Heights.

After restoring the city, Shadow sees Maria being attacked by a pack of Black Warriors and brutally defeats them using Doom Blast. Professor Gerald Robotnik also arrives. Shadow realizes they come from somewhere in time before the ARK disaster, and wonders if he can change their fates.

To get his next power, he will have to defeat Metal Overlord.

Gameplay[]

Overview[]

Act 1[]

The level goes through an area similar to the original Sunset Heights, and a sewer area similar to Park Avenue, and Ghost Town only this time in full 3D. There is a Radical Highway encounter in the Doom Zone near the end of the level, which is the last one before the final stage.

Act 2[]

A 2D version of the level that takes place during a rainstorm in the city. Featuring a surface section with hazardous Death Egg Robots and a sewer system section.

White Space[]

The White Space area for Sunset Heights features a plaza-like floor surrounding the stage entrance. A destroyed building and a ramp that leads to the Challenge Gates sit at the edge of the plaza. Maria and Gerald are located here.

Trivia[]

  • Sunset Heights, along with Chaos Island, are the only stages in Shadow Generations that come from games set after the events of Sonic Generations.
    • Although Shadow doesn't go through Sunset Heights normally in Sonic Forces, he does go through a similar stage, Enemy Territory.
      • Sunset Heights is also focused on chasing down Phantom Shadow in the story of Sonic Forces, with the real one appearing in a cutscene after the stage is completed.
  • This is one of the two stages in the game that has a different time of day for both acts with Act 1 taking place at sunset and Act 2 taking place in a rainstorm, the other being Radical Highway.
  • Lines of Galaga Bees that you can attack all at once with a homing attack, return from Enemy Territory in Act 2.
  • It is the third and last level in Shadow Generations where the player goes through Radical Highway, via the Doom Zone, during a stage. The first two being Space Colony ARK and Rail Canyon.

Music[]

The music for Sunset Heights, both Act 1 and Act 2, rearrange the music from the original stage of the same name.

Act 1's music, rearranged by Sonic Adventure Music Experience, is a fairly faithful cover of the original song, but with the weightier sound of S.A.M.E.'s rock style.

Act 2's music, rearranged by TORIENA, is a more electronic remix, starting off with a slightly slower, more melancholic opening to match the rainy visuals of the stage, before going into a more rapid tempo sound for the remainder of the track.
