Here's the pitch - hurl a harmful ball which can hit rivals mid-air, but falls flat if it flies too far.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Strike Out is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile Item used primarily to attack rivals.

Description[]

The Strike Out takes the form of a baseball with red swirls around it and a blue trail, both as an icon and on the tracks.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Strike Out can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by All-Star Amy and Slugger Sonic. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic can also use the Strike Out if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned users.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Strike Out by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. In addition, when obtaining the Strike Out, there is a chance of obtaining up to three Strike Outs to use in the Projectile Item slot on the HUD from a single Item Box. When used, the user sets loose the Strike Out's baseball, which will travel down the lane it was deployed on in front of the user until it hits either a rival character or obstacle, or it wears off. Rival characters that make contact with the Strike Out's projectile will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. In addition, the Strike Out's projectile can even damage a rival character while they are airborne. To avoid the Strike Out, the playable character has to step out of its lane.

The Strike Out can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6 and 12 respectively. When the user upgrade to level 6, the damage dealt of the Strike Out will be increased. And when the user upgrade to level 12, the Strike Out's range (as well as duration) will be increased.
