You got it, boss!

— Storm the Albatross, Sonic the Hedgehog Annual 2019

Storm the Albatross is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. He is an anthropomorphic albatross, an expert Extreme Gear rider, and the enforcer of the Babylon Rogues.

Storm is an anthropomorphic albatross of hulking physique with grey feathers and white feathers covering his body. On his arms near his wrists are dark gray fire-like markings. He has light blue eyes with red and black markings around it, a golden beak and his hair is short, similar to Wave's.

For attire, he wears tan gloves that possess visible lining with black bands, small yellow goggles, a brown necklace with small gray pieces, and black, yellow and white sneakers with sock-like cuffs and gray soles.

Bonds of Friendship

Storm and his gang eventually broke into the Mineral Museum in Spiral Hill Village in the middle of the day. Upon their arrival, Storm followed Jet's instructions and began grabbing as many of the museum's exhibitions as possible. Along the way, however, Storm saw what appears to be a giant shiny stone. In actuality though, it was just a cowering Jewel with her rainbow-like exoskeleton. Despite this, Storm kidnapped Jewel and placed her in his bag, believing Jet would like it. Afterward, Storm made a hasty retreat back to the Babylon Rogues' blimp with his friends. There, Storm tried to show Jet and Wave the gem he had collected, only to discover that the gem was actually a person when he pulled Jewel out of his bag. Soon after, Tangle and Whisper arrived, demanding Jewel be handed back. After Jet and Wave had argued over how to deal with this situation, Jet grew tired of arguing and asked for Storm to throw everyone out. When Storm complied by throwing Jewel out of the blimp however, Jet scolded Storm for making them look violent. Not long after, Storm and his friends were kept from arguing further by Tangle, who said she and Whisper had it under control. After Storm and his friends then received a threat from Tangle about not coming to her village again, Tangle leapt out of the blimp with the stolen goods. The Babylon Rogues decided not to chase them however, as today had already been a hassle.[1]

All or Nothing

The Babylon Rogues discuss Sonic's proposal, from Sonic the Hedgehog #25.

The Babylon Rogues were later contacted by Amy Rose to meet her and a group of survivors from the Metal Virus on Angel Island. There, they were told that they were needed to help steal the Chaos Emeralds from a group called the Deadly Six. Jet showed little care to help Sonic and his allies unless the reward was big enough. Even when Wave pointed out that they still needed the world's resources, Jet felt as if they could figure it out on their own without having to become "goodie-goodies"; Storm backed Jet up on his stance but noted that he liked to eat. Sonic managed to appeal to the Babylon Rogues once he told Jet that he needed his help and the world needed the "Legendary Wind Master". [2]

Storm and his crew witnessed Eggman and Tails build a Multi-Portal Generator with the Warp Topaz that would take everyone where they need to go an instant. Sonic returned from his run and had come up with a plan for who should be assigned with who and what Zeti they should go after. He told the Babylon Rogues that they were to take on Master Zik, and though he was old, he was craftier than all of the Deadly Six combined. Despite this, the team were confident that they could take him on easily, with Storm noting that he was not afraid to hit an old man. Once Tails and Eggman set the coordinates for everyone to move out, Storm and his team went through the Warp Portal to Winterburg. The Babylon Rogues immediately tried to get the jump on Master Zik, but the Zeti used his powers to take over their Extreme Gear and knock them off. After jumping onto Jet's board, the hawk is immediately angered. When noting that they were surrounded by Zombots, Jet taunted Master Zik by asking if he could not fight on his own. Master Zik told them that he retired from the battlefield long ago but would not mind teaching the Rogues a few lessons. Storm and his crew jumped at Master Zik; he and Wave were hit by their own boards. The pair soon found themselves surrounded by Zombots.[3]

Jet stays behind with Wave and Storm to face a Zombot horde, from Sonic the Hedgehog #28.

Storm fended off the Zombots with his board, though this heavily damaged it in the process; he then asked Jet what they were going to do as he could not do what he usually did, which was to punch others. Soon, Jet managed to knock Master Zik downward to Storm, who took this golden opportunity to powerfully punch him overhead. This gave Wave the chance to use her wrench to grab the Chaos Emerald off of him. Defeated and defenseless, Master Zik was soon grabbed by Zombots while he told Jet that he was not tactical or skillful, but lucky. Wave gave the Chaos Emerald to Jet telling him to leave without her and Storm as her board was lost to the Zombots and Storm's was nearly smashed to pieces. Jet instead tied the Emerald to his board and sent it through the Warp Portal. As he readied himself to fight with his teammates, Jet told them that like he told the Zeti, the Babylon Rogues do not lose. According to him, Sonic will get the Emerald and do his hero thing, but they will show the Zombots a real challenge in the meantime.[4]

Out of the Blue

After Super Sonic and Super Silver had reversed the effects of the Metal Virus all around the world, the Zombots were no more and were cured. Storm gleefully hugged his teammates, happy that they were not infected. The group noted Master Zik has disappeared before Wave commended Jet on sticking with her and Storm to fight instead of go directly to Angel Island himself. Jet was initially taken aback by the kind words, only to swiftly descend into boasting, which Wave was exasperated by but Storm encouraged.[5] Some time later, the Babylon Rogues were invited by Tangle to a party in Spiral Hill Village. Storm and Wave enjoyed their food and the show. Suddenly, the group was alerted to a large crash in the town, revealed to be Eggman in a large mecha, who had come to destroy them all.[6] With the heroes occupied with Eggman, Storm and the Babylon Rogues planned to rob the Mineral Museum during Eggman's attack. However, upon their arrival in the museum, they discovered Rouge had already acquired the museum's exhibits.[7]

One of Storm's most defining traits is his lack of intelligence. Far from the sharpest tool in the shed, he is dim-witted, goofy, and often takes things too literally. He can also be quick to act and careless, like when he mistook a cowering Jewel for a gemstone after only seeing her rainbow-colored exoskeleton from behind, which costs him his team's reputation and latest profit. He also gets happy and upset in a childish manner quite fast, hinting a simple mindset.[1]

Storm is also a greedy thief, having no qualms about plundering official institutions in order to earn a profit.[1]

Powers and abilities

In addition to possessing great strength, Storm is a brawler that focuses on hand-to-hand combat. However, he no other fighting skills besides that.[4] Storm has proven himself to be a capable and swift Extreme Gear rider. In addition, he is a professional thief.[1]

Storm's choice of equipment is his Type-S Extreme Gear, which he rides to near-perfection.[1] When the situation calls for it though, he will also use it as a blunt melee weapon.[4]

Jet the Hawk

Storm is extremely loyal to Jet, whom he usually refers to as "boss". As such, he is always seeking to please Jet and gets rather flustered or regretful when he angers him. Storm also always has Jet's back no matter the decision, even if it makes them both look ignorant. Jet is always appreciative of Storm's support. However, he does not like it when Storm does this and makes their group look incompetent. Despite this, Jet and Storm do care about each other enough to ride or fight together to the end.[1][2][4]

Wave the Swallow

Storm has a decent enough relationship with Wave, although Storm's lack of intelligence and Wave's genius-level intellect is a great contrast between them. She sometimes views him as incompetent due to his slower moments compared to her. In turn, Storm respects Wave but is not afraid to request for her to back up off of Jet when she tells him off. Regardless, he and Wave trust each other very much as teammates and know that they have each others backs, being willing to fight side by side to the end.[1][2][4]

Master Zik

Storm first met Master Zik during a fight with him in Winterburg. Before even meeting him in person, Storm admitted that he would have no problem beating up an old man like him.[3]
