A burst of bad weather that zaps any runners passing through it, removing an item.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Storm Cloud is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Trap Item used primarily to obstruct opposing rivals' path.

Description[]

The Storm Cloud's icon takes the form of a blackish thundercloud that emits a light blue lightning bolt. In gameplay, this power-up becomes a row of floating gray thunderclouds that constantly emit purple lightning.

Overview[]

Storm Cloud profile

A trio of Storm Cloud's thunderclouds, from Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.

In gameplay, the Storm Cloud can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Baby Sonic, DJ Vector, Rockstar Rouge, Shadow (also as Super Shadow), Sir Lancelot, Vampire Shadow, Tropical Storm, and the Werehog. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic can also use the Storm Cloud if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned users.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Storm Cloud by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user drops this power-up's thunderclouds some distance ahead of the user's current location on all the lanes that the user is not currently on. If a character, including the user themselves, touches one of these thunderclouds or their lightning bolts, they will be stunned, thus causing them to lose Rings and stop moving for a moment, and lose one random power-up in their inventory slots on the HUD. To avoid the Storm Cloud, the playable character must either slide underneath its storm clouds or run in-between them.

The Storm Cloud can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the zap effect of the Storm Cloud will be extended. But in Baby Sonic's case has unchanged the upgrade outcome for his Storm Cloud upgrade is level 2, 8 and 14.
