Production

Alan Denton and Greg Hahn wanted to have an episode with a female villain for a fun change of pace. They chose Belinda as she was already established as an antagonist in season one but did not have a true main role.[3][4]

When pitching "Planes, Trains and Dude-Mobiles", Alan and Greg knew they needed a second plot for Amy and Sticks, though no ideas were really established right away. They soon thought up of the idea to have two separate episodes run side-by-side, crossing over.[5][6]

Trivia

  • Nine days before this episode aired on Boomerang, Bill Freiberger released the title card for this episode on Twitter as a teaser.[7]
  • The title of this episode is a reference to the 1989 sci-fi comedy Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
  • This is the third episode in the second season that Sticks breaks the fourth wall when questioning the use of Amy's time-skip and the viewers watching the show.
  • The song that plays during Dr. Eggman's last attack on the Sonic doll is based on the "Ride of the Valkyries".
  • Dr. Eggman dodging the nails thrown at him by Sticks is a reference to the 1999 science fiction film, The Matrix.
  • Belinda saying how she does not like the look of Lady Goat is ironic considering both of them share the same character model.
