The Stealth Balkiry[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a mass-produced model of Badniks created by Dr. Eggman, and a variant of the Balkiry.

The Stealth Balkirys look very similar to the Balkirys. The Stealth Balkiry's design is a hybrid of a bird and plane. The dark green and gray metallic, slim bodied have wings on each side, a vertical stabilizer and one rotor on its back, which allows the Badnik to move at a high speed. The head has small navy eyes facing front and a yellow bird beak. They also have two yellow support legs that resemble eagles' feet.

After Sonic the Hedgehog thwarted Dr. Eggman in their last encounter, the doctor disappeared while his Stealth Balkirys and the rest of his Badnik army remained. Without a leader however, the Stealth Balkirys were directionless and no longer a unified threat.[2] Even so, they would still randomly attack anyone they came across[3] (although such incidents were more accidental than aggression-based[2]).

Jet Set Tornado

One Stealth Balkiry eventually stole a box of supplies from a Resistance warehouse. During its flight, it blew past Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower, who were flying on the Tornado. In response, Sonic and Tails gave chase to the Badnik. The Stealth Balkiry tried to lose the duo through an island canyon but they managed to catch up to it due to the Tornado's new jet booster. The duo quickly flew overhead the Stealth Balkiry, forcing it to run into a geyser. This forced the Stealth Balkiry to drop the supplies it stole. Sonic soon after performed a Spin Attack on the Stealth Balkiry, destroying it and causing a huge explosion.[1]

Basically, the Stealth Balkirys are mindless and silent drones programmed to follow their leader's every command. As such, when left without a leader to follow, they become directionless and only able to cause harm by accident. Under a guiding force however, they carry out their commands without question.[2]

Powers and abilities

The Stealth Balkirys are capable of flight, which is their main ability. Compared to their standard models, Stealth Balkirys have stronger armor that is highly resistant to heat (even being dosed in lava does not harm them). They can also fly much faster than the Tornado. In addition, they can mask their own presence so that they cannot be detected by radars.[2]

  • The Stealth Balkirys are based on the Balkiry that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog video games.
  • Stealth Balkirys are much more volatile than regular Balkirys, meaning much greater explosions are created when they are destroyed.[1]
