Status Trap is an installable performance-enhancing component for Extreme Gear. Its actual appearance is unknown, though it is presented as an icon on the head-up display in the top-left corner of the game screen. Its icon is a red-colored circle with black running shoes giving off two sweat drops inscribed in it.

In the game, Status Trap is permanently installed into only certain Extreme Gear. When used, Status Trap grants Speed Down to all the opponents participating in the same race with the player, slowing them all down and preventing them from using Gravity Control and Gravity Dive. Like when obtaining it from an Item Box, however, the effect of the Speed Down granted by Status Trap only lasts for a limited time.
In gameplay, Status Trap and its ability will be disabled when starting a new race. To activate Status Trap, the player must press one of the following buttons after collecting a certain number of Rings:
PS2
Wii
Wii Remote (sideways)
Wii Remote (vertical)
GameCube controller
When activating Status Trap, the player's Rings will be reduced accordingly by the number needed to enable it and the Extreme Gear is surrounded by an orange void, indicating that the Gear Part's ability is in effect. The following Extreme Gears come equipped with the Status Trap:
