Increases initial acceleration.

— Description, Sonic Free Riders

Start Speed UP, also known as Starting Speed UP is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is an Extreme Gear Gear Part that increases the initial acceleration of Extreme Gears.

Start Speed UP is an installable performance-enhancing component for Extreme Gears. Its actual appearance is unknown, though it is presented as an icon on the head-up display in the top-left corner of the game screen. In gameplay, the player can activate Start Speed UP under special circumstances, which will significantly increase an Extreme Gear's Dash attribute. This will raise the player's initial acceleration on the Extreme Gear he/she is currently using, allowing the player to reach higher speeds at a faster rate after slowing down or coming to a stop.

Here, Start Speed UP is a customizable Gear Part that can be attached to different Extreme Gears. It is one of the Gear Parts that can be used from the beginning of the game.

If Start Speed UP is installed into the front slot, it becomes active in gameplay once the race begins. If installed into the rear slot, however, the player can activate, and as well deactivate, Start Speed UP by switching stance by turning his/her body around due to the Kinect controls of the game.
