Start Speed UP is an installable performance-enhancing component for Extreme Gears. Its actual appearance is unknown, though it is presented as an icon on the head-up display in the top-left corner of the game screen. In gameplay, the player can activate Start Speed UP under special circumstances, which will significantly increase an Extreme Gear's Dash attribute. This will raise the player's initial acceleration on the Extreme Gear he/she is currently using, allowing the player to reach higher speeds at a faster rate after slowing down or coming to a stop.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
The Gear Part first appeared in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity where it was named Starting Speed UP. In this game, its icon is a light blue-colored circle with an image of a black shoes with a strap making a set-off from the heel inscribed in it. Here, Starting Speed UP is a Gear Part permanently installed into only certain Extreme Gears.
In gameplay, Starting Speed UP and its ability will be disabled when starting a new race. To activate Starting Speed UP, the player must press one of the following buttons after collecting a certain number of Rings:
Wii (remote) - sideways
Wii (remote) - forward
Wii (Nintendo GameCube Controller)
When activating Starting Speed UP, the player's Rings will be reduced accordingly by the number needed to enable it and the Extreme Gear is surrounded by an orange void, indicate the Gear Part coming into effect. The following Extreme Gears come equipped with the Starting Speed UP:
The Gear Part reappeared in Sonic Free Riders where it is renamed Start Speed UP. In this game, its icon is almost the same as it was in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, except its background is dark green and the image of the shoe and set-off are in a lighter green. Here, Start Speed UP is a customizable Gear Part that can be attached to different Extreme Gears. It is one of the Gear Parts that can be used from the beginning of the game.
If Start Speed UP is installed into the front slot, it becomes active in gameplay once the race begins. If installed into the rear slot, however, the player can activate, and as well deactivate, Start Speed UP by switching stance by turning his/her body around due to the Kinect controls of the game.
