Once every few nights, meteors will fall like rain. When this happens, items and enemies in the open field will be resurrected. Picking up the fallen star pieces will allow Sonic to use the Slot Machine. Get Purple Coins when the patterns line up!
The Starfall[1] (スターフォール[2],Sutāfōru?) is an event that occurs in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a short period phenomenon taking place in nighttime that involves of meteors raining down the Starfall Islands.
In Sonic Frontiers, a Starfall takes place during the Open Zone gameplay, when the player is advancing through one of five Starfall Islands during a nighttime. The event is randomly-occurring, as the short cutscene of meteor showering and enemies entering the field, is triggered before the event. As this happens, items, breakable objects, enemies and guardians that are previously collected/defeated on the field, will respawn to their original locations.[3] In addition, revived guardians will be marked with a blue star on the top of their Health Gauge if Sonic has defeated them once before the reset. Certain elements are not reset in the Open Zone field such as already defeated Titans, Memory Tokens on the map that are already found, and the clear status on each Portal.
Right from the start, countless bright light pillars with varying colors can be seen in the nighttime setting, indicating locations of the star pieces that have fallen on the Open Zone field.[1] A slot machine also appears to the center top of the screen and begins its function once the player has collected the first star piece found floating either above the ground or mid-air. The player can stop each slot's spinning by pressing up on / [Y]. Slots will also stop automatically after spinning for a short amount of time. The slot machine can reward the player with different amount of Purple Coins based on different combinations of three slots. Purple Coins can be exchanged afterwards with Big the Cat to gain access to the minigame in one of Fishing Spots. As a small minigame playing on the screen, the player can continue progressing through the game with Sonic running across the island, while collecting star pieces and gaining more Purple Coins at the same time.
The results from the few combinations on the slot machine are listed below:
The event will be halted temporarily if the the cutscene occurs at the time, the player enters the Map/Options menu, or Sonic enters the Cyber Space. This also applies if the player falls off the terrain or has lost the combat, while the current stats of Purple Coins and star pieces remain the same until Sonic returns back to the Open Zone field.
A Starfall event lasts for about three minutes during the Open Zone gameplay, as the event concludes with star pieces disappearing from the Open Zone setting while the night setting changes to daytime. The slot machine will function for a moment until the player has completed the process of stopping of all three slots. When a Starfall event occurs again in the game, the number of star pieces resets to zero.
