Deploy a mischievous flame in front of your opponent that keeps them grounded if it hits!

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Staking Onibi is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Trap Item used primarily to obstruct opposing rivals' path.

Description[]

The Stalking Onibi's icon takes form of the purple flame with light azure swirl in it.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Stalking Onibi can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Oni Mephiles. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Stalking Onibi if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Stalking Onibi by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Stalking Onibi's said flame will appear in front of the user's next rival if the user is behind said rival. If the user is leading the race however, it will appear on the lane directly behind them. If a character, not counting the user themselves, touches this flame, it will appear in player's head, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. In addition, the Stalking Onibi will prevent any rival touched its flame from jumping (only) for a few moment. To avoid the Stalking Onibi, the playable character has to either step out of its lane or jump over it.

The Stalking Onibi can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6 and 12 respectively. For each upgrade, the player will increase the damage dealt with the Stalking Onibi.

Trivia[]

  • The Stalking Onibi was considered to have some glitches or bugs during the gameplay:
    • While the Stalking Onibi was in effect, any rival hit another of it will be stalked by the flame for the rest of the course. However, the effect will be disabled as regular time.
      • This bug was fixed in 5.3.0 update.
    • Despite its non-existence (disabled from the vision when any rival contact on it in any player's vision), the Stalking Onibi's flame might effect to any rival at same location.
