The Spirit Step is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Boost Item used primarily to increase the user's speed.

Description[]

The Spirit Step's icon takes the form of Cursed Samurai Infinite's foot leaving behind Phantom Ruby cubes. In gameplay, this power-up becomes the user opening a portal in the shape of the gemstone and becoming a crimson spirit.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Spirit Step can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Cursed Samurai Infinite.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Spirit Step by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Spirit Step will increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. While the Spirit Step is active, the user becomes invisible and invulnerable to most obstacles and offensive power-ups from rivals, but they are still susceptible to falling into bottomless pits. Like most of Invincible power-ups, the user can also collect Rings, Item Boxes, as well as destroy Badniks. The duration of the Spirit Step is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Spirit Step is in effect. In addition, any rival character who makes contact with the user while the Spirit Step is in effect will be slowed down momentarily, and have their controls flipped, and will also have their Item slots on the bottom of the HUD disappear for a short time. However, the player can still use the power-ups stored in them by tapping on the place the slots are located.

The Spirit Step can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 2, 8, 14, and 20 respectively. For each upgrade, the Spirit Step will last longer.
